본 논문은 앵글로 아메리카 중 미국의 대중음악이 형성되는 시기인 1940년대 루이스 조던의 <Coldonia>를 연구하였다. 연구의 목적은 세계에서 가장 큰 영향력을 가지고 있는 앵글로아메리 카 대중음악의 생성과 발전 과정을 분석하여 융합성과 독창성의 요소를 제시하는 것이며 이것을 통해 다양한 문화가 섞여 새로운 콘텐츠를 만드는 방안에 대한 기초 연구 자료를 기술하는 것이었 다. 이를 위해 미국 크로스오버 대중음악이 형성되기 시작한 1930년대에 블루스 재즈 등의 음악을 융합하여 새로운 흑인의 대중음악 형태인 레이스 뮤직으로 창작해 낸 루이스 조던의 <Caldonia>곡 을 중심으로 융합된 음악적 요소를 화성과 리듬으로 분석하여 제시하였다. 연구 결과 루이스 조던 의 <Caldonia>는 블루스의 화성과 선율의 요소와 부기우기의 피아노 기법 그리고 스윙재즈의 리듬 에 빅비트를 적용한 형태로 융합되어 새로운 크로스오버 음악으로 만들어졌다는 분석이 도출되었 다. 화성은 12마디 패턴의 전형적인 토닉, 서브도미넌트, 도미넌트가 사용된 블루스 코드 진행이 적용되었으며 강력한 블루노트인 b3 b5 b7의 음이 연주되었다. 부기우기의 피아노 기법은 전형적 이 왼손 베이스 기법인 8분음표의 라인으로 연주하였으며 옥타브 스트라이드 부기우기 베이스의 특성이 잘 보여졌고 라인의 이동 역시 부기우기 피아노의 왼손에서 많이 사용되는 기법이 적용되 고 있었다. 또한 왼손의 베이스라인과 더불어 오른손은 멜로디를 연주하는 특성을 가지고 있어 부기우기의 기법을 잘 융합시킨 것을 알 수 있었다.

This study examines “Caldonia” (1945) by Louis Jordan, a seminal work from the 1940s during the formative period of American popular music within Anglo-American culture. The purpose of this research is to analyze the process of creation and development of Anglo-American popular music which has had the greatest global influence — —and to identify its elements of fusion and originality. Furthermore, this study aims to provide a foundational reference for developing new content through the convergence of diverse cultural elements. To achieve this, the paper focuses on Louis Jordan’s “Caldonia”, a representative work of the 1930s and 1940s era when crossover popular music began to emerge in the United States. Jordan creatively fused blues and jazz into a new form of African American popular music known as race music. The study analyzes “Caldonia” in terms of harmony and rhythm, emphasizing its integrated musical elements.The results reveal that “Caldonia” integrates blues harmony and melodic elements, boogie-woogie piano techniques, and swing jazz rhythm with a big beat foundation, thereby establishing a new form of crossover music.Harmonically, the song employs the typical 12-bar blues progression using tonic, subdominant, and dominant chords, incorporating strong blue notes (♭3, ♭5, ♭7). The boogie-woogie piano technique features the traditional left-hand eighth-note bass line, demonstrating characteristics of octave stride boogie bass and fluid walking-line movement typical of the style. In addition, while the left hand maintains the bass line, the right hand plays melodic figures, illustrating an effective fusion of boogie-woogie piano techniques.
