생성형 의 등장은 AI 인간의 고유 영역인 창작까지 관여하면서 매일 우리에게 새로운 세계를 경 험하게 하고 있다. 생성형 AI가 만든 작품을 창의적인 표현의 결과물로 볼 수 있는지 여전히 논란 이지만, 그 구조와 특징을 살펴보는 것은 새로운 문화적 현상을 이해하고 받아들이는 데 중요한 요소이다. 따라서 생성형 AI 음악에 대한 고찰이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 기술이나 매체, 매체 체계 등으로 구성되는 규칙적 시스템의 무작위성과 우연성을 통해 스스로 생성된 음악을 ‘생성형 음악’으로 정의하고, 기술의 발전과 매체변화에 따라 분류하여 그 특징을 살펴보았다. 구체적으 로 주사위 음악과 우연성 음악 등 아날로그 방식의 생성음악과 최근 인공지능 음악을 중심으로 하였다, 각 분류는 시스템을 구성하는 매체와 방식, 시스템을 사용하는 주체, 수용자에게 전달되 는 방식으로 구분하였다. 생성형 음악은 시스템을 설계하는 과정과 사용하는 과정에서 독창적 창 의성을 발휘하며, 사용자의 적극적인 개입을 통해 개방적 상호작용을 갖는다. 특히 생성형 음악은 대중들도 쉽게 창작에 참여할 수 있게 되면서 음악 창작에 대한 접근성이 낮아졌다. 이러한 특징 속에 생성형 음악에 대한 용어 정의가 학문적으로 이루어져야 한다. 또한 최근 생성형 AI 음악은 기술적 확장을 넘어 문화, 경제, 윤리 등의 변화를 일으키고 있다. 우리는 이 새로운 변화를 어떻 게 민첩하게 반응하는지에 따라 긍정적 문화적 전환이 이루어질 것이다.

The emergence of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has expanded into the traditionally human domain of artistic creation, allowing us to experience new worlds each day. Although debates persist over whether works produced by generative AI can be regarded as the outcome of genuine creative expression, examining their structures and characteristics is essential to understanding and embracing this new cultural phenomenon. Accordingly, this study explores the concept of generative AI music. Generative music is defined as music autonomously produced through the randomness and chance operations of a rule-based system composed of technologies, media, and media frameworks. Based on this definition, the study classifies generative music according to technological development and media transformation, focusing on analog forms such as dice music and chance music, as well as contemporary AI-based music. Each category is analyzed through three dimensions: the medium and method constituting the system, the subject who operates the system, and the way the result is delivered to the audience. Generative music demonstrates creative originality in both the design and utilization processes of the system, fostering open interactivity through the active involvement of users. In particular, it has lowered the barriers to musical creation, enabling the general public to participate easily in creative practices. Given these characteristics, it is necessary to establish an academic definition and conceptualization of generative music. Furthermore, generative AI music today extends beyond technological innovation, provoking cultural, economic, and ethical transformations. How we respond to these changes with agility will determine whether a positive cultural transition can be achieved.
