부마민주항쟁은 장기집권으로 암울했던 한국의 민주화에 매우 중요한 이 정표를 제공하였다. 부마민주항쟁에 대한 자료집과 증언집에서 부산지역의 민주항쟁에 대한 논란은 나타나지 않았으나 마산지역의 민주항쟁은 증언자 의 증언 내용에 대한 진실규명이 필요하다는 논의가 제기되었다. 본 연구는 마산지역의 증언에 대한 자료를 검토하여 증언에 대한 논란의 근거를 분석 하고자 한다. 마산지역의 민주항쟁에서 나타나는 증언 논란은 4가지로 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 민주항쟁은 특정 인물에 의해 주도되었는지에 대한 상반된 주장 이다. 둘째, 교내시위는 규모에서 차이를 보이며, 소극적 혹은 적극적 시위 에 대한 견해이다. 셋째, 도심시위는 규모에서 상당한 차이를 보이며, 시위 양상이 조직적이냐 하는 문제이다. 넷째, 체포 과정에서 탄압, 치욕감 등 인 권침해가 ‘있었다, 없었다’라는 상반된 입장이다. 마산지역의 민주항쟁에 대 한 증언 논란은 항쟁의 역사적 당위성을 확보하기 위해 진실규명이 필요해 보인다.

The Busan-Masan Democratic Uprising provided a very important milestone for the democratization of Korea, which had been in a dark period due to long-term rule. In the historical data and testimonies on the Busan-Masan Democratic Uprising, there was no controversy over the democratic Uprising in Busan. It was discussed that the democratic Uprising in Masan needs to find the truth about the testimonies. This study aims to analyze the basis of the controversy over the testimony of the Masan Uprising. There are four controversies about testimonies about democratic uprising in Masan. First, the question is whether the democratic uprising was led by a specific person. Second, campus demonstrations vary in scale and in opinion regarding passive or active demonstrations. Third, downtown demonstrations differ significantly in scale, and the question is whether the demonstrations pattern is organized. Fourth, during the arrest process, human rights violations such as beatings and humiliation were existent or not. The controversy over the testimony of democratic uprising in Masan seems to require a truth investigation to secure the historical justification of the uprising.
