Popular music has gone through more than one hundred years since it came into being, and has become the most popular form of music culture in the world. Popular music belongs to popular culture. Based on the perspective of popular culture, the author puts forward and summarizes the nine cultural characteristics of popular music. The epoch of popular music, the popularity of popular music, the diversity of popular music styles, the commerciality of popular music, the scientific and technological nature of popular music communication, the mainstream singing of popular music works, the urbanization characteristics of popular music, the directness and sincerity of emotional expression of popular music, and the openness of popular music creation.
