본 연구는 한국 경제 성장의 주역인 대기업 창업주 13인의 부(富) 축적 양상을 인상학적 관점에서 심층 분석하였다. 동양 인상학에서 재물과 복덕에 직접적으로 관련된 핵심 부위 인 전택궁(田宅宮), 코(財帛宮), 귀와 귓불(福德宮)의 특징에 집중하여, 창업주들에게서 공통 적으로 발현되는 인상학적 전형을 규명하고 그 현대적 함의를 탐색하는 것을 주요 목표로 설정하였다. 연구 방법론으로는 공개된 인물 사진 자료에 대한 시각적 분석과 고전 인상학 이론과의 면밀한 비교 대조가 활용되었다. 분석 결과, 한국 대기업 창업주들의 얼굴은 한국 표준형에 비해 대체로 넓고 길었으며1), 특히 이마가 발달된 양상을 보였다. 또한 길고 풍융 한 코와 두텁고 긴 귀가 공통된 특징으로 확인되었다. 이러한 인상학적 특징들은 고전 인상 학에서 부유함과 번영을 상징하는 길상과 상당 부분 일치하였다. 다만, ‘귀의 끝이 눈썹 끝보다 높아야 부귀하다'는 고전적 전제가 모든 사례자에게서 불일치함에 따라, 인상학 이 론이 현대적 맥락에서 재해석되고, 재정립될 필요성이 있음을 명확히 제시한다. 본 연구는 인상학적 통찰이 재물 창출 잠재력을 지닌 인재 선발 및 리더십 개발 과정에 보조적인 자 료를 제공할 수 있음을 시사하며, 급변하는 시대적 상황에 부합하는 새로운 인상학적 기준 정립의 중요성을 강조한다. 궁극적으로 인상학이 현대 경영 환경에서 성공과 부를 이해하는 데 독자적인 관점을 제공할 수 있다는 결론을 제언한다.

This study comprehensively analyzes the patterns of wealth accumulation among 13 Korean conglomerate founders, pivotal figures in the nation's economic development, from a physiognomic perspective. The primary objective is to identify a common physiognomic archetype in these entrepreneurs and explore its contemporary significance, with a specific focus on the Tiancung Palace (전택궁), nose (재백궁), and ears/earlobes (복덕궁), which are directly associated with fortune and prosperity in Eastern physiognomy. The methodology involved visual analysis of publicly available portrait data and a meticulous comparison with classical physiognomy theories. The analysis revealed that Korean conglomerate founders generally exhibited broader and longer facial structures compared to the Korean standard, particularly well-developed foreheads, long and prominent noses, and thick, elongated ears. These physiognomic characteristics largely aligned with classical auspicious signs symbolizing wealth and prosperity. However, a notable discrepancy emerged: the classical tenet that 'the ear tip must be higher than the eyebrow tip for prosperity' was not fulfilled by any of the subjects. This finding underscores the necessity for a modern reinterpretation and re-establishment of physiognomy theories within contemporary contexts. The study suggests that physiognomic insights can offer supplementary value in talent identification and leadership development, particularly for individuals demonstrating potential for wealth generation. It further emphasizes the importance of formulating new physiognomic criteria that resonate with the rapidly evolving modern era. Ultimately, the research proposes that physiognomy can offer a unique lens through which to comprehend success and wealth in today's business environment.
