이 영화는 각 장에 부가한 제목과 함께 내용을 전개하면서 책을 읽는 듯한 느 낌까지 제공한다는 점에서 독특한 구성을 보인다. 더 흥미로운 점은 무속신앙의 면모를 깊이 있게 다룸으로써 혼령, 정령 등의 차이와 물과 불, 쇠와 막대 등의 상극 관계에 대해서도 소개하고 있다는 점으로, 이성의 공간인 현실에 펼쳐진 비 이성적 개념인 혼, 귀 등에 대한 이해를 촉구한다. 한국이라는 공간에서 묫자리는 어떤 개념으로 운용되는가와 그곳의 혼령과 억울함을 털어내지 못하고 죽은 혼귀가 정령으로 남아 산자들을 괴롭히는 것에 이르기까지 삶의 공간 속에 들어온 죽음의 의미는 무속 신앙에 대한 이해의 지 평을 확장하게 함을 알 수 있다. 물과 불의 관계, 쇠와 목의 관계 등 일상에서 간과하기 쉬운 부분에 대해 종교적 시각에서는 어떻게 바라보고 있는지를 정령 에 대처하는 모습을 통해 명확하게 보여주었다. 종교적 제의가 사자들의 혼을 위로하고, 결국에는 그들의 이야기를 들어주고 한을 풀어주는 것이 산자에게도 반드시 필요한 부분임을 알 수 있다. 결국 삶과 죽음은 하나의 연장선상에서 몸, 육체의 소멸로 끝나는 것이 아니라는 점을 보 여주는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 이 지점에서 혼령에 대한 이해는 곧 핏줄에 대 한 이해였고, 혼귀가 원하는 바를 파악하기 위해 그에게 말을 걸어 다가가는 방 법이 결국 무속신앙을 통해 재현되고 있음이 매우 흥미로운 지점이다.

The film Exhuma (Digging Tombs), as one of the best Korean occult movies, is unique in adding its titles to each chapter. Interestingly, the film delves deeply into shamanism, exploring the differences between souls and nature spirits, as well as the conflicting relationships between water and fire, metal and wood. This approach encourages an understanding of irrational concepts like soul and ghosts within the rational realm of reality. The arduous efforts to console the spirits of the dead and prevent bloodline inheritance extends wide spectrums of shamanism in Korea. Particularly the meaning of a tiger is distiguished. It clearly demonstrates how religious perspectives can be applied in everyday life and how religious rituals comfort the spirits of the dead, listening to their stories and alleviating their grievances essential for the living as well. Ultimately, life and death is not a separate but continuous process, culminating in the annihilation of the body.
