본 연구는 인도네시아어 문학 작품에 포함된 이슬람 종교 용어가 한 국어로 번역되는 과정에서 나타나는 번역 양상을 분석하는 것을 목적으 로 한다. 이슬람 용어는 단순한 종교 어휘를 넘어, 고유한 문화적, 신학 적 함의를 지닌 개념어로서 기능하며, 그 번역은 언어 간 등가성뿐 아니 라 문화 간 수용성까지 고려해야 하는 복합적인 과제를 수반한다. 본 연 구는 HAMKA의 소설 ‘Tenggelamnya Kapal van der Wijck’와 그 한 국어 번역본 ‘판데르베익호의 침몰’을 대상으로 삼아 총 15개의 대표적 이슬람 용어를 중심으로 번역 방식의 유형을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 번 역자는 음차, 설명적 번역, 문화소 번역, 직역, 생략 등의 다양한 전략을 혼용하였으며, 종교적 상징성과 독자의 이해 가능성 사이에서 균형을 모 색하는 방식이 주로 활용되었다. 특히, 설명적 병기와 각주의 활용은 문 화적 낯섦을 극복하고 독자의 이해를 도모하는 데 효과적인 전략으로 작 용하였다. 본 연구는 이슬람 용어 번역에서 요구되는 문화적 감수성과 신학적 정확성의 중요성을 강조하며, 타문화 종교 용어의 번역에 있어 체계적이고 윤리적인 접근이 필요함을 시사한다.

This study aims to analyze the patterns of translation observed in the process of rendering Islamic religious terms from Indonesian literary texts into Korean. Islamic terms function not merely as religious vocabulary but as conceptual words bearing distinct cultural and theological implications, and their translation requires consideration of both linguistic equivalence and cultural acceptability. This research focuses on HAMKA’s novel Tenggelamnya Kapal van der Wijck and its Korean translation The Sinking of the van der Wijck, examining 15 representative Islamic terms. The analysis reveals that the translator employed a variety of strategies—including transliteration, explanatory translation, cultural substitution, literal translation, and omission—in a hybrid manner to balance religious symbolism with reader comprehensibility. In particular, explanatory notes and footnotes proved effective in mitigating cultural unfamiliarity and enhancing reader understanding. This study underscores the importance of cultural sensitivity and theological accuracy in the translation of Islamic terms and suggests that a systematic and ethical approach is essential.
