본 연구는 중국 유학생들이 한국 대학원의 이중언어학위과정을 선택하 는 유학 동기에 대한 고찰을 통해 ‘한국에서 중국어로 유학하기’라는 이 중언어학위과정의 독특한 교육사회학적 현상을 규명하는 것을 목표로 하 고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중국인 서예가들이 서예교육과 관련하여 서예의 종주국인 중국에서 대학원 과정을 이수하지 않고, 한국 대학원의 이중언 어학위과정에 입학하여 서예교육을 공부하는 독특한 교육학적 양상을 중 심으로 질적 사례연구를 진행하였다. 이중언어학위과정으로 운영되고 있 는 S대 대학원에 재학 중인 중국 서예가 8인을 연구대상으로 선정하였 고, 프랑스의 사회학자 피에르 부르디외의 교육 ‘장’ 논의를 이론적 근거 로 삼아 심층인터뷰를 통해 이들의 한국 유학 동기를 살펴봄으로써, 이 들이 한국 교육 ‘장’을 택한 근원적인 질문의 해답을 찾고자 하였다.

This study investigates the distinctive educational-sociological phenomenon of bilingual degree programs in Korea by examining why Chinese calligraphers choose such programs. A qualitative case study focused on the unexpected pattern that these calligraphers, instead of pursuing graduate studies in China-the birthplace of calligraphy-enroll in bilingual degree programs at Korean graduate schools to study calligraphy education. Eight Chinese calligraphers enrolled in S University’s bilingual program were selected as participants. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of educational fields, the study used in-depth interviews to explore their motivations for studying in Korea and to consider the educational-sociological implications of bilingual degree programs.
