본 연구는 동포사회 중심의 고등교육기관이 한인 차세대들의 한국 유학 과 이주 적응 과정에서 갖는 교육사회학적 의미를 탐색한다. 연변과학기술 대학교(과기대) 출신 중국동포들을 대상으로, 이들의 초국적 교육경험이 한국으로의 귀환이주 동기와 한국 사회에서의 적응 및 정체성 형성에 어 떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 구술생애사적 관점에서 살펴본다. 주요 연구 결과 의 분석 및 요약은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 민족성과 국제성을 동시에 갖춘 과 기대의 학습환경을 통해 중국동포 학생들은 한국 유학과 취업을 가능하게 하는 언어·문화·사회적 자본을 형성하게 된다. 둘째, 한국 귀환 이후 과기 대에서 축적한 교육자본과 인적 네트워크를 활용하여 대학원 과정에 진학 하거나 전문직에 종사하며, 한국 체류 기간이 길어지면서 진로 경로를 전 공 외에도 가족, 젠더, 생애주기적 요인에 따라 더욱 다양하게 확장하는 경향을 보인다. 셋째, 귀환이주 중국동포들은 한국 사회에서의 적응과 정 체성 형성 과정에서 다양한 영역에서 초국가적 실천을 수행하며, 다층적인 관계망을 형성하고 한·중 양국의 배경에 영향을 받으며 이중적·경계적 정 체성을 협상해 나간다. 본 연구는 기존 중국동포 연구에서 비교적 미진했 던 고학력층의 이주·정착 경험에 주목함으로써 한인 디아스포라의 귀환이 주에 대한 다각적인 이해를 도모하고, 중국동포의 초국적 교육경험을 통한 사회·문화적 자본의 재구성 과정을 이해하는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

This study explores the sociological significance of an ethnic Korean higher education institution within the diaspora community in facilitating Korean study-abroad experiences and migration adaptation among the younger generation of ethnic Koreans in China. Focusing on ethnic Korean graduates of Yanbian University of Science and Technology (YUST), the research examines— through a life history approach—how their transnational educational experiences have influenced their motivations for return migration to South Korea, as well as their adaptation processes and identity formation within Korean society. By focusing on the migration and settlement experiences of highly educated ethnic Koreans—an area that has been relatively underexplored in previous studies—this research aims to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of return migration within the Korean diaspora and to shed light on how transnational educational experiences facilitate the reconstruction of social and cultural capital among ethnic Koreans from China.
