This paper analyzes how the historical and social conflicts of Ireland are represented in film narrative, focusing on Ryan’s Daughter. The film portrays the process in which individual desire, under colonial conditions, comes into conflict with communal ethics, and positions Rosy as a ‘hybrid subject’ situated between colonial power and the national community. Her transgression of boundaries triggers communal violence. The work reveals the oppression of colonial society through the interweaving of personal desire with political, religious, and national ideologies, ultimately showing how individuals are sacrificed by the community and its governing ideologies in a colonial context.
