본 연구는 국내 네팔 이주노동자 35인의 공동 시집 『여기는 기계의 도 시란다』에 수록된 작품 중, 삶과 노동의 문제를 다룬 68편을 분석 대상 으로 삼았다. 다문화 관련 시에 등장하는 네팔 이주노동자 문제를 질적 연구 방법인 시 내용 분석(Content Analysis)을 통해 고찰하였다. 시 작 품들 속에 녹아있는 네팔 이주노동자들의 노동과 삶에 초점을 맞춰 시집 의 시에 나타난 핵심 시어를 기준으로 주제 유형을 설정하고 이에 따른 네팔 이주노동자의 재현 양상을 파악하는 데 의의를 두고 연구를 진행하 였다. 연구 결과, 이주노동자의 타자화 존재 재현 유형, 자기-주체화 존 재 재현 유형으로 크게 두 가지로 분류하였다. 이주노동자 타자화 존재 재현 유형에는 사물화된 존재 재현 유형과 통제되고 배제되는 존재 재현 유형의 두 가지로 분류하여 살펴보았다. 그리고 이주노동자 자기-주체화 존재 재 현 유형에는 부당한 노동의 문제를 고발하는 사회적 증인형 존재 재현 유 형, 디아스포라형 존재 재현 유형의 두 가지로 나누어 네팔 이주노동자 의 노동 경험과 삶을 고찰하였다. 마지막으로, 시집에 나타난 핵심 시어 를 기준으로, 본 연구의 ‘시적 전망’을 ‘인간다움의 회복’, ‘연대 의식’, ‘권리 회복’ 등 세 가지 양상으로 분류하여 고찰하였다. 시집 속 시들은 기계 문명에 매몰되지 않고, ‘인간다움’을 지키며 서로 연대하는 모습을 보여준다. 이를 통해 암울한 도시적 삶 속에서 자신의 목소리를 되찾고, 한계를 극복하려는 전망을 제시한다.

This study analyzes 68 poems from the poetry collection This
Is the City of Machines, written by 35 Nepalese migrant
workers, with a focus on how their lived experiences of labor
and everyday life are represented in poetry. Using qualitative
content analysis, the study examines issues surrounding Nepalese
migrant workers as they appear in multicultural poetry,
identifying key poetic terms to establish thematic categories and
explore patterns of representation. The analysis reveals two
broad modes of representation: the portrayal of migrant
workers as othered beings and as self-subjectivized beings.
Drawing on the key poetic terms identified in the collection, the
study further examines the poems’ “poetic prospects,” which
emerge in three interrelated forms: the recovery of humanity,
the cultivation of solidarity, and the restoration of rights. The
poems depict migrant workers who resist being subsumed by
mechanized urban civilization, instead striving to preserve their
humanity and form bonds of mutual solidarity.
