이 논문은 아나스타시오스 야눌라토스의 선교 신학을 정교회 핵심 교리인 신화(theosis)의 재해석을 통해 분석한다. 20세기 후반 정교회 가 선교적 정체성을 상실한 상황에서, 야눌라토스는 “선교 없는 교회는 모순”이라는 명제로 사도성과 선교를 교회의 존재론적 본질로 재정의하 였다. 그는 신화를 수도원적·개인적 영성에 한정하지 않고 모든 인류를 향한 보편적 소명으로 확장한다. 이에 따라 선교는 인류와 피조 세계가 하나님의 ‘비피조적’ 에너지에 참여하도록 돕는 미시오 데이의 과정으로 이해되며, 신화는 선교의 목적이자 동력이 되는 내적 필연성으로 규정된 다. 특히 “예전 후의 예전” 개념을 통해 성찬에서 경험한 신화를 세상 속의 희생적 사랑과 정의의 증거(martyria)로 연장함으로써, 예전·선 교·사회참여를 통합하는 선교적 전환을 제시한다. 또한 그는 삼위일체 의 사랑의 친교를 미시오 데이의 근거로 삼아, 선교를 삼위일체적 신화에의 초대이자 인격 회복의 과정으로 이해한다. 본 논문은 이러한 신화 재해석이 형이상학적 차원과 수도원에 머물던 전통적인 신화 교리를 사회적·선교적·실천적 범주로 전환하여, 현대 정교회 선교 신학의 새로운 패러다임을 형성했음을 규명한다.

This article examines Anastasios Yannoulatos’s theology of mission through his reinterpretation of theosis, a central doctrine of Eastern Orthodoxy. In a period when Orthodox churches had largely lost their missionary identity, he redefines apostolicity and mission as the Church’s ontological essence, insisting that “a church without mission is a contradiction in terms.” Yannoulatos expands theosis beyond monastic and individual spirituality into a universal and cosmic vocation for all humanity and creation, so that mission becomes the process of Missio Dei in which the world is led to participate in God’s “uncreated energies.” Through his notion of “the liturgy after the liturgy,” the Eucharistic experience of theosis is extended into sacrificial love, justice, and martyria in society, integrating liturgy, mission, and social engagement. The article argues that this theosis‑centred vision offers a distinctive Orthodox reframing of Missio Dei and a new paradigm for contemporary Orthodox mission theology.
