본 연구는 명리학의 용신(用神)을 단순한 길흉 판단의 기술이 아니라, 사주 구조의 불균형을 조절하고 삶의 실천 방향을 해석하는 기준으로 재검토한다. 이를 위해 고전 명리 문헌에 나타난 억부⋅조후⋅격국⋅병약⋅통관의 취용 논 리를 검토하고, 이를 명식의 불균형을 진단하며 중화를 지향하는 조절의 층위 로 정리하였다. 또한 생물학의 항상성, 생태학의 회복탄력성, 심리학의 보상 개 념을 보조적으로 참조하여 ‘불균형 인식-조절 작동-안정 지향’이라는 분석 기준 을 마련하였다. 본고가 제안하는 ‘용신 추구 기제’는 명식이 요구하는 조절 방향이 개인의 선 택, 표현, 역할 수행, 관계 맺기, 가치 지향 속에서 어떻게 표면화되는지를 읽기 위한 해석 틀이다. 사례 분석 결과, 식상⋅재성⋅관성⋅인성 용신은 각각 표현 과 발화, 성과와 선택, 규범과 제도, 자격과 정당성의 방향으로 삶의 실천 양상 과 해석적 상응성을 보였다. 본 연구는 제한된 사례 분석에 기초하므로 일반화에는 한계가 있으나, 고전 용신론을 현대적 조절 개념과 연결하여 용신을 인간의 반복적 선택과 삶의 방향성을 해석하는 원리로 확장할 가능성을 제시했다는 데 의의가 있다.

This study reconsiders Yongshin (用神), a core concept in Myeongri, not merely as a technique for judging fortune and misfortune, but as an interpretive criterion for regulating structural imbalance in the natal chart and understanding the direction of life practice. To this end, the study examines the classical methods of determining Yongshin, including eokbu (抑扶), johu (調候), gyeokguk (格局), byeongyak (病藥), and tonggwan (通關), and reorganizes them as different levels of diagnosing imbalance and orienting the natal chart toward zhonghe (中和). It also refers, in a supplementary manner, to the concepts of homeostasis in biology, resilience in ecology, and compensation in psychology in order to establish an analytical framework of “recognition of imbalance―operation of regulation―orientation toward stability.” The ‘mechanism of Yongshin pursuit’ proposed in this study is an interpretive framework for examining how the regulatory direction required by the natal chart becomes manifested in personal choices, modes of expression, role performance, relationships, and value orientation. The case analyses show that sik-sang, jae-seong, gwan-seong, and in-seong Yongshin correspond respectively to expression and articulation, achievement and selection, norms and institutions, and qualification and legitimacy in relation to modes of life practice. Although this study is limited by its reliance on a small number of cases, it suggests the possibility of expanding the classical theory of Yongshin by connecting it with modern concepts of regulation. In doing so, Yongshin can be understood not only as an internal criterion for chart interpretation, but also as a principle for interpreting repeated human choices and the directionality of life.
