유대치는 개화기 조선의 난국을 타개하기 위해 청년들을 규합하여 개 화파를 조직하였다. 1884년 12월 4일 갑신정변을 일으켰으나 3일 만에 끝났다. 정변 후 많은 사람이 처형되거나 일본으로 망명하였다. 유대치 역시 피난할 수밖에 없었다. 유대치의 활동에도 불구하고 신분과 가계에 대한 이견(異見)이 존재하고, 저술이 없어 그가 생각하고 있던 개화사상 의 기조와 방향이 무엇인지 가늠하기 어려웠다. 본 연구에서는 그의 가계 를 파악할 수 있는 새로운 자료를 제시하고 그를 따랐던 인물과의 관계 속에 나타난 개화사상을 살펴보았다. 『한양유씨세보』에 나오는 유홍기를 개화파를 지도한 유홍기와 동일 인 물로 본 연구는 오세창의 진술과 『윤치호일기』와 『승정원일기』에 나오는 큰사위 金永燦의 제시로 다른 인물임이 제시되었다. 여기에 『조선개교오 십년지』에 등장하는 사위 金彰熙로 볼 때 동일인으로 보기 어렵다. 신분 에 있어 양반이라는 주장은 오세창의 회고처럼 중인 계급으로 보는 것이 적절하다. 유대치가 가지고 있던 개화사상의 윤곽은 그와 함께 개화운동을 펼친 인물들과의 활동과 대화 속에 담긴 내용을 분석할 때 다음과 같이 정리 할 수 있다. 첫 번째 불교의 평등사상에 기초하여 양반 체제인 조선의 신분사회를 개혁하려고 했던 인권 개혁이었다. 두 번째 내실 있는 국가를 수립하고, 여러 국가와 외교관계를 맺어 청나라의 종속적 체제에서 벗어 나는 내정 개혁과 자주 국가 실현이었다. 세 번째 상업과 공업의 발전으 로 국가 재정이 튼튼해지고 이를 통해 군비를 갖출 수 있는 산업 발전을 통한 부국강병이었다. 이 내용들은 갑신정변 후 개화파가 발표한 정강에 포함되어 그가 오경 석과 나누었던 조선 사회의 개혁이었고, 따라서 갑신정변의 막후 조정자 였음을 알 수 있다. 최후에 관한 여러 추측이 있다. 그 가운데 용문산 은 거설과 오대산 은거설이 당시 상황에 적합하다. 두 가지 가운데 그가 활 동했던 경성에서 먼 지역으로 피신하고 싶은 심리, 신앙적으로 용문산보 다 오대산이 불교 聖地로 본다면 이곳에 은거했을 가능성이 크다.

Yu Dae-chi was a revolutionary in the late Joseon Dynasty. From early on, he tried to overcome Joseon's national crisis by accepting Western civilization. What he planned was to unite young people and create a reform force. With that intention, the reformist group was organized. The reformists staged a coup on December 4, 1884. It ended in three days due to the suppression by the Qing Dynasty. After the coup, many people were executed. Many people fled to Japan. Yu Dae-chi also fled to the provinces. The activities of Yu Dae-chi are very important for understanding the late Joseon Dynasty. Despite his stature, there are differing opinions about his identity and lineage. Because there are no writings, it is difficult to know what enlightenment thoughts he was thinking about. This study provides new information about his family lineage. Through interactions with people who followed him, I was able to learn about the thoughts of enlightenment. The person named Yu Hong-gi in the Yu clan genealogy is a different person from the person who led the reformist faction. His status is middle class. The enlightenment thoughts that Judaechi had can be summarized as follows. First, it was a human rights reform aimed at changing Joseon's class society based on the Buddhist idea of equality. Second, it was to establish a sound state through internal reforms and establish diplomatic relations with various countries, thereby realizing an independent state free from the Qing Dynasty's dependent system. Third, it was a country that was rich and strong by strengthening its national finances through the development of commerce and industry, and through this, by equipping its military. These contents were included in the platform announced by the reformists after the cou It was a reform of Joseon society that was discussed with Oh Gyeong-seok. Therefore, he can be said to be the behind-the-scenes coordinator of the cou There are various speculations regarding the end of Yu Dae-chi. The theory that it was hidden in Yongmunsan Mt and Odaesan Mt is appropriate. The farthest of the two is Odaesan Mt. This place is called a holy place in Korean Buddhism. Considering the desire to travel far from Seoul, Odaesan Mt is a strong candidate.
