본 연구는 프랑스의 사회학자 피에르 부르디외(Pierre Bourdieu)의 자 본 이론을 분석적 틀로 삼아, 중국 서예가들이 한국 대학원의 이중언어 학위과정을 선택하는 교육사회학적 기제를 심층적으로 탐구하고자 하였 다. 이를 위해 S대학교 이중언어학위과정에 재학 중인 중국인 서예가 8 인을 연구대상으로 선정하여 질적 사례연구를 수행하였다. 연구결과, 연 구대상자들이 한국 유학을 통해 취득한 박사학위(제도화된 문화자본)는 본국의 교수사회 내에서 강력한 ‘상징자본’, ‘경제자본’, ‘사회자본’으로 전환되며 교수사회 내 전략적 위치 선점을 보장하는 일종의 ‘익스프레스 티켓’으로 기능하고 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 유학 교육을 통한 문 화재생산이 국가의 경계를 넘어 더욱 정교하고 전략적인 방식으로 구조 화되고 있음을 시사하는바, 학술적 측면에서는 초국적 자본 전환의 메커 니즘을 규명하였다는 데 의의가 있다. 정책적 측면에서는 한국 대학들이 외국인 유학생 유치 전략을 수립함에 있어 유학생들의 사회학적 유학 동 기를 고려한 근본적인 인식의 전환이 필수적임을 시사한다.

Drawing upon Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of capital as an analytical framework, this study explores the socio-educational mechanisms underlying Chinese calligraphers’ selection of bilingual graduate degree programs in South Korea. To this end, a qualitative case study was conducted with eight Chinese calligraphers currently enrolled in a bilingual graduate program at ‘S’ University. The findings reveal that the doctoral degrees— representing institutionalized cultural capital—obtained through their studies in Korea function as an “express ticket” to the Chinese professoriate. This credential facilitates a strategic process of capital conversion into symbolic, economic, and social capital, thereby ensuring advantageous positioning within the academic field in China. This research underscores that cultural reproduction through international education is being structured in increasingly sophisticated and strategic ways across national borders.
