본고는 캐서린 헤일스의 포스트휴먼 논의를 바탕으로 <로봇 드림>에 나타난 인공지능 로봇의 물질성과 애도의 형식을 분석한다. 동시대 인공 지능 재현은 로봇에 대한 탈신체화 가능성을 강조해 왔으나, 이 영화는 오히려 손상되고 부식되는 몸을 지닌 존재로서 인공지능 로봇을 제시한 다. 이에 본고는 첫째, Robot이 Dog와의 관계 속에서 함께 걷고 움직이 며 리듬을 공유하는 과정을 통해 체현된 주체로 형성된다는 점을 살핀 다. 둘째, 해변에 방치된 이후 Robot의 신체가 부식되고 정지하는 장면 을 통해, 정보가 물질적 구현과 분리된 채 존속할 수 있다는 환상이 좌 절되는 과정을 고찰한다. 셋째, 반복되는 꿈의 장면을 로봇의 신체에 대 한 상실의 부정이 아니라 체현된 가상의 형식으로 파악함으로써, 이 영 화가 관계의 회복 불가능성을 감각적으로 지속시키는 애도의 방식을 보 여준다고 논증한다. 이를 통해 본고는 <로봇 드림>이 인공지능을 유한한 몸, 관계의 형성, 상실의 흔적을 통해 사유하게 만드는 텍스트임을 밝히 고, 포스트휴먼 영화 연구에서 물질성과 체현성을 다시 논할 필요가 있 음을 제기한다.

This study examines the materiality and mourning of the AI robot in <Robot Dreams> through Katherine Hayles’s posthuman theory. Whereas contemporary representations of artificial intelligence emphasize the possibility of disembodiment, this film presents the robot as a being with a body that can be damaged, corroded, and immobilized. First, the article argues that Robot becomes an embodied subject through his relationship with Dog, especially through shared movement and rhythm. Second, it shows how Robot’s corrosion and immobility on the beach undermine the fantasy that information can survive independently of material instantiation. Third, by reading the recurring dream sequences as a form of embodied virtuality rather than a denial of loss, the article contends that the film renders mourning as the sensorial persistence of an irrecoverable relation. In this way, <Robot Dreams> invites us to understand artificial intelligence not as a transcendent informational subject, but as a being shaped by a finite body, relationality, and loss.
