Development and Validation of Coaching Supervisory Competency Scale
The purpose of this study is to develop a coaching supervision competency scale that can systematically measure the competencies of coaching supervisors and to examine its validity and reliability. Through prior studies, literature review, and in-depth interviews, the components of coaching supervision competency were collected and reviewed, resulting in an initial pool of 115 items. Following expert content validity assessment, 60 preliminary items were selected. A pilot study and two main studies were then conducted, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were performed. The goodness-of-fit of the measurement model was verified, and convergent validity, discriminant validity, criterion-related validity, and reliability were examined. The final coaching supervision competency scale was confirmed to consist of 23 items across four factors: ‘supervision relationship management competency’ (7 items), ‘supervisor professional management competency’ (7 items), ‘supervision system management competency’ (5 items), and ‘supervisor self-utilization competency’ (4 items). The scale developed in this study is expected to contribute academically as a tool for examining the relationships between supervisor competencies and various variables in coaching supervision research. Practically, it can serve as foundational data for developing supervisor training programs and for evaluating their effectiveness.
