A Case Study of Campus Mobility Experiences among a Wheelchair User with Disability
This study explored the campus mobility experiences of a wheelchair user with disability to understand how mobility is shaped by environmental conditions and contextual factors. A single-case study was conducted using participatory accompanied observation and thematic analysis. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was employed as an analytical framework to examine the relationships among environmental factors, mobility activities, and participation. The analysis identified four themes: the gap between formal accessibility and actual usability, continuous environmental barriers, mobility strategies shaped by risk experiences, and relational mobility. These themes were mapped onto the ICF framework to provide a structured interpretation of mobility experiences. The findings indicate that mobility constraints arise not only from individual functional limitations but also from the interaction between environmental conditions and social support. The study suggests that campus accessibility policies should emphasize route-based accessibility, user-centered evaluation, and accessibility information systems.
