Spatial Structure of Unregistered Cultural Heritage through a Landscape–Ritual–Memory Triadic Model : A Comparative Study of Sancheok, Urban Core, and Periphery in Chungju
This study analyzes the spatial structure of Chungju’s unregistered cultural heritage across three zones—Sancheok, the urban core, and the periphery—through a Landscape–Ritual– Memory triadic model. Sancheok exhibits inward sanctification where ancestral graves, steles, and village rites overlap within a single lifeworld. The urban core embeds memory into everyday routines by coupling riverfront/terrace topography with paratexts (signage, inscriptions, song monuments) and walking circuits. The periphery concentrates markers at thresholds and mediating sites (passes, springs, administrative nodes), showing frequent relocation, clustering, and partial restoration triggered by infrastructure projects. Comparative synthesis formalizes site logics (boundary, vantage, hydrological, administrative), ritual rhythms (annual, episodic, contemplative), and mediations (textual, iconic, route), which co-produce a recursive cycle of placement– practice–memory.
