A Study on Assessment Domains and Elements for University-Level Practical Music Creation Courses Using Generative Music AI
This study proposed assessment domains and elements for systematically evaluating student performance in university-level practical music creation courses using generative music AI, reflecting UNESCO’s AI Competency Framework and competencies required in practical music education and the music industry. A draft based on 45 Korean and international studies was validated through two Delphi rounds with six experts from both fields. Data analysis included means, standard deviations, content validity indices (I-CVI and S-CVI/Ave), consensus, and convergence. S-CVI/Ave increased from .914 to .932, all I-CVI values were at least .83, and consensus and convergence met the established criteria. The final framework comprised 21 elements across six domains: AI Utilization Competency, AI Collaboration and Creative Process, AI Ethics and Responsibility, Music Creation Competency, Collaboration and Communication, and Reflection and Self-Directed Learning. A four-level scale added Below Basic to UNESCO’s Understand, Apply, and Create stages. Covering musical outcomes, AI use, human creative contributions, collaboration, reflection, and ethical responsibility, the framework can support course design, self- and peer assessment, formative feedback, and summative assessment.
