본 연구는 개빈 해리슨의 드럼 솔로에서 나타나는 리듬 변형 기술을 그루핑 구조를 중심으로 분석하고, 기본 박 구조와 변형된 그루핑 구조가 어떠한 방식으로 결합하는지를 분석하여 리듬 변형의 구조적 특성을 도출하였다. 연구 목적은 리듬 변형에 대한 구조적 이해를 높이고, 연주와 교육에 활용 가능한 분석 기반을 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 리듬 변형 관련 선행연구를 검토하 여 연구 기준을 설정하고, 솔로에 나타난 리듬 변형 구간을 추출한 후, 기본 타임시그니쳐 박의 구조와 변형된 그루핑 구조가 융합된 다층리듬구조 관점으로 분석하였다. 또한 각 리듬 구조를 악보, 구조 분석표 및 그루핑 모형으로 시각화하여 원래의 구조와 변형된 구조를 비교하고 제시하 였다. 분석 결과, 리듬 변형은 4/4박자의 기본 박 체계를 유지하면서 다양한 길이의 그루핑과 리 듬 분할 방식의 변화를 결합하는 형태로 나타났으며 16분음표 3개, 6개, 7개의 그루핑과 3박 단위 의 그루핑, 스트레이트 비트에서 3연음으로의 전환이 활용되었고 각 악기에는 서로 다른 그루핑 구조가 독립적으로 적용되었으며, 다층적인 리듬 구조가 형성되는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 분석 체계는 기본 박 구조와 변형된 그루핑 구조의 관계를 구조적으로 해석하는 데 초점을 두었 다. 이러한 접근은 리듬 변형이 전개되는 과정을 시각적으로 설명할 수 있는 새로운 분석 관점을 제공하며, 복합적인 리듬 구조에 대한 이해를 심화하는 데 기반을 제시할 수 있다.

This study examines the rhythmic transformation techniques in Gavin Harrison’s drum solo by analyzing the relationship between Pulse Structure and Grouping Structure. The purpose is to clarify the structural principles of rhythmic transformation and provide an analytical framework applicable to performance and rhythm education. Rhythmic transformation passages were identified and analyzed from the perspective of multilayered rhythmic structures integrating the original pulse of the time signature with transformed grouping structures. The results show that all rhythmic transformations preserve the 4/4 pulse while employing grouping structures of three, six, and seven sixteenth notes, three-beat groupings, and straight-to-triplet transformations. Independent grouping structures across instruments created multilayered polyrhythmic textures. These findings demonstrate that Harrison’s rhythmic transformations are achieved by integrating transformed grouping structures into the original time-signature framework. The proposed analytical approach provides a systematic basis for understanding and visualizing rhythmic transformation and offers theoretical support for drum performance analysis, rhythm education, and music analysis.
