본 연구는 뮤지컬 『왕얼의 장정』에 나타난 국가 정체성의 형성 과정을 규명함으로써, 국가 공동체에 대한 개인의 인식과 경험이 국가 정체성으로 형성되는 서사적 구조를 밝히고, 중국 창작 뮤지컬에서 국가 정체성이 재현되는 방식에 대한 이해를 확장하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 대상은 『왕얼의 장정』 전곡 19곡의 가사이며, 국가 정체성 형성을 뒷받침하는 Benedict Anderson(2006)의 상상된 공동체 이론 세 요소인 상상적·제한적·주권적 요소를 중심으로 분석 하였다. 그 결과, 첫째, 『왕얼의 장정』은 평범한 병사 왕얼이 장정을 경험하는 과정에서 자신이 속한 공동체를 인식하고 공동체의 경계를 이해하며 공동체의 사명과 책임을 자신의 것으로 받아들 이는 서사를 담고 있었다. 둘째, 19곡 전반에서 세 요소는 서로 중첩된 형태를 보였으며, 각 곡에 서는 특정 요소가 중심을 이루고 다른 요소가 이를 보완하였다. 상상적 요소에서는 공동의 경험을 통한 공동체 인식이, 제한적 요소에서는 우리와 타자의 구분을 통한 공동체의 경계와 규범이 나타 났으며, 주권적 요소에서는 사명의 수용과 실천을 통한 공동체의 주체 의식이 확인되었다. 본 연 구는 영웅 중심의 국가 정체성 재현에 머물러 온 기존 연구와 달리, 『왕얼의 장정』을 상상된 공동체 관점에서 분석하여 평범한 병사의 서사에서도 국가 정체성이 재현될 수 있음을 확인하였으 며, 중국 창작 뮤지컬에서도 국가 정체성이 다양한 방식으로 재현될 수 있음을 밝혔다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine national identity formation in the musical Wang Er’s Long March and to identify how national identity is represented in Chinese original musicals. The study analyzed the lyrics of all 19 songs using the three elements of Benedict Anderson’s (2006) theory of imagined communities imagined, limited, and sovereign. First, Wang Er’s Long March portrays how Wang Er, an ordinary soldier, recognizes his community, understands its boundaries, and accepts its mission and responsibilities through the Long March. Second, the three elements overlap throughout the 19 songs, with one element serving as the primary focus and the others supporting it. The imagined element appears through shar ed experiences, the limited element through the distinction between us and others, and the sovereign element through the acceptance and practice of the community’s mission. Unlike previous studies focusing on hero-centered representations of national identity, this stud y demonstrates that national identity can also be represented through the narrative of an ordinary soldier and highlights diverse representations of national identity in Chinese ori ginal musicals.
