본 연구는 18세기 조선 후기에 간행된 관찬 문헌인 󰡔삼국사기󰡕와 󰡔논어집주󰡕를 대상으로 자형 변이 양상을 분석하고, 그 구조적 특징과 변화 원리를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 두 문헌에서 나타나는 이체자를 수집·정리하고, 구성요소별 자형 변이를 유형화하여 변화 양상과 특징을 비교·분석하였다. 분석 결과, 자형 변화는 크게 ① 필획의 생략·축소 및 추가에 따른 자형의 간략화·확장, ② 구성 요소의 치환과 반복·대칭 구조의 재편으로 나타났다. 빈도상으로는 人·匕·口·大 계열에서 변화가 집중되었으며, 일부 사례는 예서·소전 등 이전 서체 단계의 필법이 잔존한 결과로 볼 수 있어 자형 변화가 임의적 변형이 아니라 서체사적 배경과 필기·판각의 실용적 필요가 함께 작용한 구조적 현상임을 확인하였다. 또한 󰡔삼국사기󰡕와 󰡔논어집주󰡕는 공통 자종에서도 서로 다른 계열의 이체를 취한 등 이체자 운영에서 차이를 보였다. 다만 단독 출현 유형의 상당수는 󰡔삼국사기󰡕의 인명·지명 등 고유명사 표기에서 비롯된 것으로 판단되어, 두 문헌의 차이는 어휘 구성과 실제 운용 차이가 함께 작용한 결과로 이해된다. 본 연구는 자형 변이를 구성요소별 구조 변화의 관점에서 체계적으로 정리하고 유형화함으로 써 18세기 관찬 문헌의 자형 운용 양상을 구체적으로 밝히고자 하였다. 또한 동일 시기의 관찬 문헌을 비교 대상으로 삼아 자형 변화의 공통점과 차이를 함께 규명함으로써 기존의 개별 문헌 중심 연구를 보완하고, 향후 시기별 이체자 변천 연구를 위한 기초 자료와 비교 기준을 제시하였 다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

This study examines patterns of character-form variation in the Samguk sagi (三國史記) and the Noneo jipju (論語集注), two government-compiled texts published in eighteenth- century Joseon, with the aim of identifying their structural characteristics and elucidating the principles underlying such changes. To this end, variant character forms found in the two texts were collected and organized, and variations in individual character components were classified into types. The patterns and characteristics of each type were then comparatively analyzed. The analysis shows that character-form variation in the two texts can be broadly classified into two major modes: (1) simplification or expansion of character forms through the omission, reduction, or addition of strokes, and (2) the restructuring of component configurations through the substitution of components and the reorganization of repetitive or symmetrical structures. In terms of frequency, variations were particularly concentrated in character forms involving the components 人, 匕, 口, and 大. Some of these cases may be understood as reflecting the survival of writing practices inherited from earlier script traditions, including clerical and small-seal scripts. This finding suggests that character-form variation was not the result of arbitrary modification, but rather a structural phenomenon shaped jointly by historical developments in script forms and by the practical requirements of writing and woodblock engraving. Moreover, clear differences were observed in the use of variant character forms between the historical text Samguk sagi and the Confucian classic Noneo jipju. Even where the same character types occurred in both texts, different variant forms were sometimes employed, indicating that the differences cannot be explained solely by variations in lexical composition but also reflect distinct practices in the actual use of character forms. At the same time, a considerable proportion of forms occurring exclusively in one text, particularly in the Samguk sagi, appears to derive from the notation of proper nouns such as personal and place names. The differences between the two texts may therefore be understood as the result of both differences in lexical composition and differences in actual practices of character- form usage. By systematically organizing and classifying character-form variation from the perspective of component-based structural change, this study elucidates the concrete patterns of character- form usage in eighteenth-century government-compiled texts. Furthermore, by comparing two contemporary texts of this kind and examining both their common features and differences, this study complements previous research centered on individual texts. It also provides foundational data and a comparative framework for future research on the historical development of variant Chinese character forms.
