Objective : This study identified differences in phubbing behavior by general characteristics among university students and examined its correlations with stress, social interaction anxiety, and occupational balance. Methods : A survey was conducted with 189 university students in North Jeolla Province using the Korean Phubbing Scale, Korean Perceived Stress Scale, Korean Social Interaction Anxiety Scale, and Korean Occupational Balance Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis. Results : Phubbing was positively correlated with stress(r = .253, p < .01) and negatively correlated with occupational balance(r = -.191, p < .01), while its correlation with social interaction anxiety was not significant. Pubbing differed significantly by major(F = 18.358, p < .001), with health science majors showing lower levels than other groups. Men scored higher than women in interpersonal conflict(t = 2.311, p < .05) and self-isolation(t = 2.455, p < .05). Conclusions : The findings suggest that phubbing is associated with stress and occupational balance, highlighting its relevance to psychosocial health and daily life balance. Although smartphones can support daily life as ICT-based devices, use patterns may be linked to reduced occupational balance. This study provides foundational data for occupational therapy interventions promoting healthy digital device use and occupational balance.
