Network Structural Characteristics of Supplying Countries and Quality Retention in Global Fishery Trade Networks: Evidence from Korea, China, and Japan
This study analyzes the effect of supplying countries' network structural
characteristics on quality retention in the global fishery trade network, focusing on
Korea, China, and Japan, using bilateral trade data from UN Comtrade for 2022 and
2023. The results show that all three network structural indicators—k-core, weighted
betweenness centrality, and weighted pagerank centrality—have significant positive
effects on quality retention, with weighted pagerank centrality emerging as the
strongest and most consistent predictor. Regression analyses across the three importing
countries reveal that weighted pagerank centrality remains significant in all three
countries, while k-core is significant only in Korea and weighted betweenness centrality
is significant only in China. This study contributes to the literature by empirically
demonstrating how supplying countries' structural positions in the global fishery
trade network affect quality retention, thereby extending the scope of the nexus
supplier theory to the country level.
