Genetic structure of 22 populations of two self-pollinating pasture species, Elymus nutans and E. burchan-buddae collected from various altitudes of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau was studied using fluorescence-based amplified fragment length polymorphism technique. Analysis of molecular variance revealed 42.97% and 37.63% among-population variation for the two Elymus species, respectively, indicating that the majority of the total variation presented within populations. This result contradicts the common genetic variation pattern for a selfing plant species: lower generic variation within populations. STRUCTURE analyses of the Elymus populations indicated an evident admixture genetic structure, particularly among neighboring populations from the same region, supporting the hypothesis of considerable seed dispersal among populations. The among-population gene flow promulgated by grazing animals may promote the maintenance of genetic diversity in the pasture species, particularly in small and fragmented populations within a given region. The gene flow promulgated by grazing animals may promote the maintenance of genetic diversity in the pasture species, particularly in small and fragmented populations within a given region.
To get good productivity and high feed value of forage, we develop to new Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) 'Kogreen'.variety. In Suwon, heading date of 'Kogreen' was on May 3 but in Yonchun was on 8 May that was 2 day later than that of 'Florida 80' and dry matter yield is 12.7ton/㏊, and had a good cold tolerance.
Plant height of 'Composite 28' was 89㎝ and heading date was on 4 May with green leaf color and showed high yield among three composite lines. A visual score of winter field survival of 'Composite 28' was 1.0. 1st dry matter yield of 'Composite 28' in Cheonan was 8.64ton per ㏊ compared to introduced variety 'Amba'(7.20ton/㏊). Heading date of 'Composite 28' was 7 days earlier than check variety, 'Amba'.
Two-year-old, full flower aohan alfalfa (Medicaga sativa cv. aohan) was chosen to evaluate the silage effect by using different additives of Qingbao Ⅱ , Caihe and Yishengkang. Result indicated that additives increased CP content (P<0.05) and decreased CF, ADF and NDF content significantly (P<0.05). Lactic acid content in additives treatments were significantly higher (P<0.01) than control. These result showed that additives improved silage fermentation quality, reduced cellulose contents and improved silage nutritive value. Among three treatments, Caihe and Yishengkang were priority to Qingbao Ⅱ on the effect of promoting the desired lactic acid fermentation.
This research was conducted to determine the effect of condensed tannin (CT) on the quality of fermentation and nutritive value of "Demark" alfalfa. During the ensiling, the production of NH₃-N and NDF decreased while the concentration of lactic acid in increased apparently as the CT was added.
Whole plant com fertilized with or without nitrogenous fertilizer during its growth was harvested at milk matured stage for silages. The lactic acid bacteria inoculants Lactobacillus>6×10¹? cfu/g, Pediococcus>2×10¹? cfu/g) was used at 0.01 g/㎏ of fresh matter. Cellulase (CF) (concluding cellulase, acremmoocium and trichioderma) was used at 0.033 g/㎏ of fresh matter. And the mixture of lactobacillus and enzyme (LF+CF) were used respectively 0.01 g/㎏ and 0.033 g/㎏ of fresh matter. After 45 days, when the silages had been made, opened to air and sampling for the analysis of nitrate contents and nitrite contents at 0, 1, 3, 6 and 10 days. The results showed that, the nitrate content of fertilized com silages was higher (p<0.05) than that of unfertilized com silages significantly at the beginning of opening the silages. As the day's extension, the nitrate content of all silages trended to decline. For the fertilized com silages, the nitrate content of untreated silages higher (p<0.05) than that of treated silages and declined sharply throughout the process. This phenomenon appeared from 3 day point to 10 day point for treated silages. For unfertilized com silages, there was no significant difference between untreated silages and treated silages at 0 day point. The nitrate content of untreated silages sharply declined from 0 day to 10 day point, which of treated silages began at 3 day point. From above, we can conclude that nitrogenous fertilizers can affect the nitrate content of com silages, and adding LAB and enzyme can retard the nitrate transforming into nitrite.
Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) herbage were harvested, ensiled into laboratory silos and opened after 1,2,3,7,10,15 and 35 d of storage. The pH and nitrogen distribution were detected in all ensiling stages. The results showed that red clover silage have significant lower pH than alfalfa silage at every stage of ensiling. The non-protein N (NPN) concentration of these two forages kept increasing along with the ensiling processing and red clover silage has significant lower accumulation of NPN than alfalfa throughout the whole fermentation. Similar trends were displayed in the concentrations of ammonia N (NH₃-N) and free amino acid N (FAA-N). Peptide-N exhibited rapid increase at the first few days, followed by decline and then increased again.
The effects of different rotational grazing time on the main plant population characteristics of desert steppe were investigated in this experiment. The main results were shown as follows: the height of Stipa breviflora in late grazing plot was more superior than that in early plot, and the coverage and density of Alliumpoly rrhizum presented an obvious advantage.
The objective of this study was evaluated the influences of the nitrogen fertilization level on timothy silage fermentation quality, nutritive value, and nutrient intake. In both the first and second crops, high level nitrogen fertilization (H) led to a lower WSC content and higher CP content than standard nitrogen fertilization (S). The silage fermentation quality was good in the presence of a Lactobacillus inoculant (SI and HI) than uninoculant (SC and HC). In the first crop silage, the TDN content and intake were significantly higher (P<0.01) for HI than for SI. In the second silage, the DM, DE, and TDN intakes did not significantly differ among the 4 treatments.
This study investigated the influences of the addition of lactic acid bacteria inoculants and an enzyme during the crush processing of com silage on the nutritive value, nutrient intake and aerobic deterioration. The fermentation quality of the silages showed that although all of the silages were of good quality, the V-score of U was 91.0 points and significantly lower than those of other silages (P<0.01). On the chemical composition of silages, the crude protein concentration of U was 7.1%DM and significantly lower than those of other silages (P<0.05). On the digestibility, the nutritive value and nutrient intake did not significantly differ among the silages examined. After silo opening, a rapid rise in heat was seen from the 6th after opening for 11C38 and SLA, and from the 9th in U and SL, respectively.
This study was conducted on both Grassland & Forage Research Center, NIAS, Cheonan(Central area) and Sancheong(southem area) from 2005 through 2008, in order to evaluate the effect of various cultivation methods on productivity of organic com silage. Treatments included five cultivation methods(conventional, normal organic, strip seeding, early seeding, late seeding) using a com silage(P3156)-crimson clover(Contea) double crop system. Crimson clover was used for either cover crop or green manure in this experiment.
The main nutritional problem of sorghum×sudangrass (sudangrass) silage is low quality and dry matter (DM) contents. This experiment was conducted to evaluate whether agricultural byproducts addition of sorghum×sudangrass silage increases DM content and forage quality of the silage. Sorghum×sudangrass silage with added byproducts had low pH values, however sorghum×sudangrass silage (control) had a high pH value because of its high moisture content. Silage added with byproduct had lower acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents than control silages, while its non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC), and total digestible nutrients (TDN) and lactic acid contents showed the opposite results. Silages added with crushed rice and green grain of rice were higher in lactic acid content than othor treatments as well as high DM, NFC, and TDN contents. Silage added with crushed rice and green grain of rice can be recommended as the most effective treatment for increasing forage quality and DM content of sorghum×sudangrass silage.
Recently, round bale silage is very popular preservation method in Korea. In autumn, many farmers usually make silage from fresh rice straw, but the quality of rice straw silage was not good. This study was conducted to find out the silage quality of fresh rice straw in the mid-western costal area in Korea. The average DM (dry matter) content was 40.5% and pH was 5.0. Forage quality of "A" and "D" farm silage was higher than that of others area. Silage quality was also higher in "A" and "D" farm silage of west costal area. The content of lactic acid of "A" and "D" farm silage was high and acetic and butyric acid was low. The result of this experiment indicated that the quality of fresh rice straw silage made by farmers was somewhat low. So we must guide farmers to making good quality of fresh rice straw silage.
To explore the relationship of species diversity and aboveground productivity in grazing ecosystem is very important to manage grassland. We used the four years' data to check this relationship and to look how abiotic factor affect species diversity and aboveground productivity. We found a good linear relationship between species diversity and aboveground productivity in all previous grazing sites, while no any relationship was found in the no grazing site. From our results, we concluded that drought affects aboveground productivity more than grazing, while heavy grazing affects species diversity more than drought in Inner Mongolian steppe.
Grazing restoration succession of the degraded grassland is an important aspect in community ecology. Field experiment was carried out to examine how major species restore in first four years restoration following 11 consecutive grazing under different stocking rates in Inner Mongolian steppe. A. frigida and P. acaulis are the most important two species in the all treatments (NG, LG, MG and HG) after four years restoration, although they had high fluctuation. The biomasses of these two species account for 40-90% of total biomass. Especially in no grazing area, which was exclosured since 1990, A. frigida and P. acaulis are still the most important two species in the community. These results suggested A. frigida and P. acaulis conununity are quite stable, and will keep long-time if no special measurements were taken during the restoration of the degraded grassland.
In a Stipa breviflora desert steppe of Inner Mongolia a long-term positional grazing test with different stocking rates was carried out. Sheep grazing started from year 2002 till to 2008 and grazed from June on to October in each growing season. The grazing test was randomly designed with three blocks and soil samples were collected for seed check. The results illustrated that soil seed bank density was significantly affected by different stocking rates, showed a decreasing trend with increasing stocking rate. In all grazing plots the seeds mainly concentrated in the 0~10㎝ soil layer.
From 2002 to 2007, two different systems (shrubs and grasses) were established to raise appropriate ruminants for the purpose of improving biological diversity and fragile ecological environment in the karst-areas through grazing. The objective was to find out a novel way to promote the application of ecological restoration and reconstruction, and the agricultural economy could develop in sustainable way in the karst areas in Guangxi and similar areas in Southwest China.
