This study examined the effects of a physical therapy program on quality of life (QOL), and neck and shoulder disability in head and neck cancer patients. The program included neck and shoulder range of motion (ROM) exercises, massage, progressive strengthening exercises, and stretching exercises. Sixteen patients who were assigned to an experimental group performed physical therapy for 40 minutes three times a week for eight weeks. Fifteen other patients were assigned to a control group who did not performed the physical therapy program. The European organization for research and treatment of cancer (EORTC QLQ-C30) and head and neck (EORTC QLQ-H&N) instruments, and the Neck Disability Index (NDI) were assessed before and after the rehabilitation program. The 40-minute program consisted of a 10-minute ROM exercise for the neck and shoulder, a 10-minute massage and 15-minute of progressive resistance exercises, followed by a five-minute stretching exercises. Statistically significant differences were noted for changes in global health, physical function in the EORTC QLQ-C30 and cancer related symptoms in the EORTC QLQ-H&N35 (p<.05). The NDI also showed significant differences (p<.05). Physical therapy may therefore benefit the physical aspects and QOL and improve neck and shoulder disability in patients with head and neck cancer.

Fisher-Tropsch synthesis for the production of hydrocarbon from syngas was investigated on 20% cobalt-based catalysts (20% Co/HSA, 20% Co/Si-MMS), which were prepared by home-made supports with high surface areas such as high surface alumina (HSA) and silica mesopores molecular sieve (Si-MMS). In the gas phase reaction by syngas only, 20% Co/Si-MMS catalyst was shown in higher CO conversion and lower carbon dioxide formation than 20% Co/HSA, whereas the olefin selectivity was higher in 20% Co/HSA than in 20% Co/Si-MMS. In the effect of n-hexane added in syngas, the selectivities of C5+ and olefin were increased by comparing the supercritical phase reaction with the gas phase reaction in addition to reduce unexpected methane and carbon dioxide.

Separation of naphthalene from naphthalene and 2-methylnaphthalene mixture has been studied by layered melt and solution crystallization using ethylalcohol. Purity and yield of naphthalene depended mainly on the cooling rate: The effective distribution coefficient (Keff) as the degree of impurity removal was observed to decrease with the decreasing in cooling rate. Purity of naphthalene can be enhanced to 5~7% by melt crystallization using 90% naphthalene and the purity of naphthalene can be obtained to be 99% up by solution crystallization.

Porous graphite was synthesized by removal of template in HF after pyrolysis of pyrolyzed fuel oil (PFO) at using the template of Co or Ni intercalated magadiite. Porous graphite had a plate structure like template, and d-spacing value of about 0.7 nm. The extent of crystallization of porous graphite was dependent on the contents of Co or Ni intercalated in interlayer. It can be explained that the metal such as Co and Ni acts as a promotion catalyst for graphite formation. Porous graphite shows the surface area of .

Layered silicate was synthesized at hydrothermal condition from silica adding to various materials. Nano-clay was synthesized by intercaltion of various amine compounds into synthetic layered silicate. The products were analysed by XRD, SEM, and FT-IR in order to examine the condition of synthesis and intercalation. From the results, it was confirmed that kaolinite was synthesized from precipitated silica and gibbsite at during 10 days, and hetorite was synthesized from silica sol at during 48 h. Na-Magadiite was synthesized from silica gel at during 72 h, and Na-kenyaite was synthesized from silica gel at during 84 h. Nano-clay was prepared using synthetic layered silicate intercalated with various amine compounds. Kenyaite was easily intercalated by various organic compounds, and has the highest basal-spacing value among other layered silicates. Basal-spacing was changed according to the length of alkyl chain of amine comopounds. Polymer can be easily intercalated by dispersion with large space of interlayer. Finally, epoxy/nano-clay nanocomposite can be easily prepared.
