Vespidae are social insects and crucial predators that prey upon various insects. In particular, Vespa velutina nigrithorax, as a representative predator of honey bees, inflicts huge economic damage on apiary. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the national distribution of vespid wasps. In this study, collection was made, in 73 study sites, using hornetluring traps and malaise traps in Gangwon-do, Gyeonggi-do, Gyeongsang-do, Chungcheong-do, and Jeju-do from 2019 to 2022. As a result, a total of 24,974 individuals of 24 species, 5 genera, and 2 subfamilies were collected, with the largest number of species collected in Gangwon-do (22 species, 5 genera, and 2 subfamilies). Also, Vespa simillima simillima (38.2%), Vespa crabro flavofasciata (25.1%), Vespa crabro flavofasciata (23.8%), Vespa velutina nigrithorax (27.5%), and Vespa simillima xanthoptera (54.6%) are the dominant species in each province, respectively. Species richness (R') and species evenness (E') were highest in Gyeonggi-do (R'=2.712, E'=0.978), and species diversity (H') was highest in Gyeongsang-do (H'=2.981). Dominance was highest in Jeju-do (DI=0.719). Herein, we provide basic data needed in development of vespid damage management systems using regional sampling data and forest geospatial information in the study area.

We analyzed comparatively the ground beetle communities of 1993 and 2023, with 30 year interval, in broadleaf and coniferous stands of the Gwangneung forest, a biosphere reserve in South Korea. 2,906 individuals (53 species, 38 genera, and 15 families) were collected from broadleaf stands and 1,782 individuals (36 species, 32 genera, and 14 families) from coniferous stands in 1993. The dominant species was Synuchus cycloderus in both stands. In 2023, 1,682 individuals (110 species, 78 genera, 21 families) were collected from broadleaf stands and 990 individuals (92 species, 67 genera, 22 families) from coniferous stands. In 2023, the dominant species were Eucarabus (Parhomopterus) sternbergi sternbergi in broadleaf stands and Coptolabrus jankowskii jankowskii in coniferous stands. Species richness (R'), species evenness (E'), species diversity (H'), and dominance (DI) were all higher than in broadleaf (R'=15.472, E'=0.336, H'=1.601, and DI=0.371) and coniferous (R'=13.756, E'=0.369, H'=1.324, and DI=0.326) forests in 2023.

Two species in Monochamus (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) are wellknown vector species of the pine wood nematode (PWN) in South Korea. In 2018, the surveys using sentinel logs with two Monochamus species larvae were made from early June to last September in Pinus densiflora forests of Pohang city, South Korea. The experiments were repeated 10 times in order to investigate parasitism patterns of the larval parasitoids of M. saltuarius and M. alternatus. Three plots were chose at interval distance of 20 m (0 m, 20 m, 40 m) from the edge to the center of the forests (i.e. forest depths) in one damage area of the pine wilt disease for each of three different locations. For each time of the exposure ten sentinel logs were hung along the tree heights (i.e. sentinel logs positions) (height: 0 m, 1.8 m, 3.6 m, 5.4 m, 7.2 m). As the results of the surveys six larval parasitoids in total were identified, and most abundant parasitoids were Spathius verustus and Cynopterus flavator. Analyses showed that the parasitism rate on larvae of two Monochamus species was not affected according to forest depth, but the parasitism rate was the highest in the third plot. Also the parasitism rate was the highest at 5.4 m height of a tree. Lastly, parasitisms rate on M. alternatus was higher than that of M. saltuarius.

Monochamus saltuarius Gebler (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is a well-known as vector species of the pine wood nematode (PWN) in the northern areas of South Korea. In 2017, larval parasitoids of M. saltuarius and their parasitism patterns were investigated in Pinus koraiensis forests with consideration of sentinel logs positions (height: 0 m vs. 1.8 m), distances from the edge to the center of the forest (0, 20, 40, 60, 80m), and damage degrees of the pine wilt disease (infested area, buffer area, and uninfested area). In total six of larval parasitoids were collected: Spathius verustus, Sclerodermus harmandi, Cynopterus flavator, Heydenia testacea, Heydenia sp., Braconidae sp. The parasitism rate to larvae of M. saltuarius larvae was not affected by sentinel log positions. However, the parasitism rate was significantly higher in infested areas compared to the buffer and uninfested areas. In the infested area, the parasitism rate was increased with distance from forest edges.

Ginseng(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) is a perennial herbaceous plant which grows very slowly. It takes about 3 to 4 years from seeding to collecting the ripe seeds and the ginseng propagation is very difficult. and so, it is very difficult to breed ginseng plant. Ginseng tissue culture was started from at 1960, and ginseng commercial product by in vitro callus culture was saled, however upto now, regenerants were not planted to soil normally. Recently, plant genetic engineering to produce transgenic plants by introducing useful genes has been advanced greatly. In a present paper, transformation of ginseng plants was achieved by co-cultivation with Agrobacterium harboring the binary vector coding Proteinase-II gene, which confer resistant or tolerant to insect pests, The binary vector for transformation was constructed with disarmed Ti-plasmid and with double 35S promoter. The NPT II gene and introduced genes of the transgenic ginseng plants were successfully identified by the PCR. Especially the transgenic ginseng plants were regenerated using new techniques such as repetitive single somatic embryogenesis.
