        Alkaloid producing species of plants have long been a major component of the medicinal social and magico-religious aspects of human culture. A diverse array of biological activities has been attributed to different alkaloids including numerous members of benzylisoquinoline family of alkaloids. For biotechnological approaches of alkaloid biosynthesis in poppy family, plant regeneration protocol through somatic embryogenesis or shoot organogenesis is a first step. This paper describes the methods and applications of plant regeneration of poppy family.

        Volatile oil components were analysed in Perilla frutescens accessions collected from different regions in South Korea and identified chemotypes based on the major volatile oil components. Major components out of 30 compounds identified were limonene, perillaldehyde, perillaketone, isoegomaketone, beta-caryophyllene, beta-farnesene, myristicin, and dillapiole. P. frotescens collections were classified into four chemotypes : PA type (57.7% limonene and 19.8% perillaldehyde), PK type (89.8% perillaketone), ST type (82.4% sesquiterpene, as 54.5% beta-caryophyllene and 27.9% beta-farnesene) and PP type (40.3% phenylpropenes as 13.6% myristicin and 26.7% dillapiole) and 37.8% sesquiterpenes. The majorities of P. frutescens collections in this study belong to PA type (41.9%) and PK type(38.8%).

        Soybean varieties derived from Korea are classified into four groups on the basis of their food types such as soybeans for vegetable, sprout, sauce and paste and soybeans with colored seed coat. This study was carried out to know the differences in storage protein concentrations among these four groups. There were differences in storage protein concentrations among four groups. In 7S protein, the α '-and α -subunit concentrations did not vary among four groups, while a β -subunit concentration greatly varied. 7S protein concentration was the highest(40.6%) in soybean for sauce and paste and the lowest(37.7%) in soybean for vegetable, while 11S protein concentration was the highest (62.3%) in soybean for vegetable and the lowest (59.4%) in soybean for sauce and paste. In view of the fact that 11S protein has much higher sulfur containing amino acids than 7S protein, it was shown the soybeans for vegetable may have higher nutrition value than other groups.

        밀의 초장을 결정하는 유전자의 소재를 밝히기 위하여 21개 Caribo monosomic lines에 재배종인 Diplomat을 교배하여 얻은 F1 식물체를 근 선단부의 염색체를 검경하여 monosomic F1 을 확인한 다음 자식시켜 F2 집단을 얻었다. 초장을 결정하는 유전자를 밝히기 위하여 monosomic F2 평균과 정상교배 F2 평균을 비교한 결과 적어도 7개의 유전자가 초장에 관여하고 있었다. 이중 2A, 2B, 2D는 초장을 작게하는 주인자로, 그리고 5A는 초장을 크게 하는 주인자로 나타났다. 또한 3B, 6A, 7A도 초장을 작게하는 인자이다. 2A, 2B, 2D 및 5A와는 달리 그 효과가 작은 것으로 분석 또는 해석되었다.
