The Digital Right Management is a technological measure that is used to protect the digital contents from illegal infringements without proper permissions. The fundamental license of DRM belongs to InterTrust and patent issue remains. There are two legal issues of DRM Technology. At first it’s DRM protection. Although the technological protection measures are becoming highly sophisticated, all the measures could be eventually defeated by technologically sophisticated users. So WIPO treaty, DMCA, EU directive and korean copyright act protect the technological measures. French copy right act accepts the content of EU directive. Second is DRM standard. Standardization of DRM is not established. Many groups like Microsoft, Apple and OMA compete to obtain DRM technology standard. At present the problem of interoperability among different DRMs is not solved. SK telecom accepts EXIM developed by MIC and ETRI and is scheduled to make interoperability possible.
