The poverty level in Buru Regency is still high, despite the relatively stable economic growth. For this reason, the purpose of this study was to (1) Identify the leading commodity in each district in Buru Regency; (2) Analyze the effect of road infrastructure and leading commodities on poverty. The findings show that the most sparsely populated district is Fena Leisela, with mangoes as the leading commodity. Pineapple, langsat, apple rose, cabbages, cashews, coffee, cashew, melon, and watermelon are the leading products in Air Buaya, Batabual, Waplau, Lolong Guba, Lilialy, Waelata, Namlea, Kaiely Bay, and Waeapo, respectively. Additionally, the results also indicate that road infrastructure and leading commodities have a significant effect on poverty alleviation in Buru Regency. It means that improving infrastructure and increasing leading commodities production reduce poverty in the region. Good road infrastructure can promote connectivity between regions so that it can accelerate and expand economic development. The provision of infrastructure that encourages connectivity will reduce transportation costs and logistics costs to increase product competitiveness and accelerate the economic movement. When the road infrastructure in Buru Regency improves and new roads are built, it can improve transportation access, it will reduce the living cost for the poor and increase income, and open up opportunities for the poor to benefit from economic growth.

The purpose of this research aims to develop the creative economy sector of rural communities in Trenggalek Regency, East Java, Indonesia by mapping the creative economy sub-sectors in Trenggalek Regency. The creative economy industry has been shown to have a positive effect on GDP in many developing countries and developed countries. In urban areas, the creative economy is often associated with the development of advanced technology, such that it is unlikely to evolve in rural communities. However, the rural environmental landscape, which not only has a wealth of creative human capital but also a cultural heritage, also encourages the growth of the creative economy sector in rural areas. This qualitative research was conducted for 60 working days through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, observation and literature review. More precisely, first, it identified the potential of the creative economy both sectorally and regionally. Second, it identified the leading creative economy subsectors and compiled a creative economic development road map. After defining and mapping the potential of the creative economy, four of the sixteen sub-sectors of the creative economy were identified to be developed through a strategic plan for the growth of the creative economy using urban branding, innovative industrial centers and renewable resources.

This study aims to test the influence of employee competency and career management on career commitment in Indonesia. The study uses the cross-sectional data of regional government employees collected from February to April 2020. Regression and structural equation modeling are employed. The results base on the effect of employee competency and career management on career commitment in Indonesia are in line with the existing theory (i.e., Bandura’s Career Theory). Employee competency has a significant positive influence on career management and career commitment, which shows that regional government employees with high competency generate effective career management, and in turn career commitment increased. Regional governments with their career management program should formulate human resources management practice policy (e.g., career support, training, career development program, and orientation programs) in order to increase their competency. The positive effect of employee competency on career management is because of the effective training and career development program. The positive influence of career management on career commitment is due to the regional government providing an attractive career program, thus, employees’ career commitment improved. The positive influence of employee competency on career commitment via career management is implemented by regional government support to improve the career management program.

This paper aims to provide a review concept regarding the relationship between corporate governance and corporate sustainability in Indonesia. This paper examines the mechanisms and guidelines for implementing good corporate governance. This research used the literature review method and explores some effective corporate governance principles such as transparency, accountability, responsibility, independence, fairness, and equality to achieve business sustainability in Indonesia’s setting. The results show that good corporate governance regulation in Indonesia has been improved, but the enforcement is still needed to be optimized because good corporate governance will positively impact corporate sustainability. Thus, sustainability requires more corporate innovation because sustainability is about how a company can create profits and value-added to society through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and how the company can contribute to the preservation of nature and the environment. In Indonesia, the board of directors, the board of commissioners, and the audit committees are positively related to CSR disclosure. Thus, leadership and management efforts are crucial. However, to comprehensively support the synergy of implementing good corporate governance, we need the role of the state, the business community, and society. This study provides important insights into the implementation of good corporate governance in achieving corporate sustainability in Indonesia.

The study aims to investigate the implementation of the internal quality assurance system (IQAS) on HEIs performance, mediated by financial management accountability. The commitment from foundation leadership on financial management accountability and their implications for HEIs’ performance is also carefully examined. This study employs samples of 108 respondents from the leadership of private HEIs under Region IV Service Institutions. The purposive sampling, as a part of non-probability sampling was chosen as the sampling technique. Statistical data analysis conducted by use the structural equation model to test the hypothesis. The results reveal that the implementation of IQAS does not influence the financial management accountability, but it has an essential role on HEIs’ performance. Moreover, foundation leadership’s commitment has a significant positive effect on financial management accountability and HEIs’ performance. Financial management accountability also has a significant positive effect on HEIs’ performance. Financial management becomes important because the entire activities of HEIs should end with financial reporting. Therefore, financial and non-financial aspects are two interrelated and complementary aspects in the accreditation process. The findings of this study suggest that that performance measurement is very crucial as a part of the efforts to meet the general accountability requirement for organizations, particularly in HEIs.

The study aims to estimate the effect of current ratio (CR), current liability to inventory (CLI), total asset turnover (TAT), net profit margin (NPM), sales growth (SG), and company size (FS) on profit growth (PG). The research population was 18 companies in the Food and Beverage (F&B) sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2014-2018. The data estimation method uses the common effect panel data regression model. The empirical findings show that the CR and CLI ratios have a negative effect on PG, while the TAT, NPM, and SG ratios have a positive effect. Company size is a factor that does not affect the growth of company profits. The results of the study imply that an increase in company profits can be achieved if the company operates efficiently and with low liquidity to encourage higher sales growth. The limitations of the research are as follows: first, this research considers only one type of industry, hence the results of this study would not be the same if applied to another type of industry. Second, the author observes profit growth by using the company’s financial ratios and size and ignores other factors that may affect profit growth, for example, the number of employees, total net sales, and market capitalization.

This research aims to analyze the factors affecting the acceptance of social commerce, including performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social support, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, habitability, price saving orientation, and privacy concerns using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2). UTAUT2 has been examined and modified in various contexts. The research model studies the acceptance and use of technology in the context of customers. This study adopts a quantitative method using the partial least squares regression (PLS) approach involving 244 respondents. The respondents are users of social commerce in Indonesia. The result of this research indicates that social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, habit, price value orientation, and privacy concerns have a significant effect on behavioral intention. On the other hand, performance expectancy and effort expectancy does not affect behavioral intention. Furthermore, price value has a significant effect on social commerce user behavior. Lastly, facilitating conditions and habits does not affect social commerce user behavior. This research contributes to the development of theory by examining an additional variable, which is privacy concern. This study is significant since social media and social commerce have grown exponentially nowadays. Implications of the results for the development of the theory (UTAUT2) and practice are discussed in the article.

The stock market serves as a representation of economic well-being in a country. Along with the myriad of economic predictors, specific knowledge possession may lead to different macro consequences of stock performance and market value. This study empirically investigates the capacity of possessing excellent intellectual capital to increase the performance and values of listed banks in Indonesia. The selection of banks as the primary data represents such sectors’ capability to attract, employ, or exploit the excellent internal capacity under the discussion of resource-based view theory. At best to the authors’ knowledge, this topic’s findings are still elusive and debatable upon considering the direct and indirect relationships between the proposed exogenous and endogenous variables. Eighteen listed banks form the panel data throughout 2011-2016. This study employs a path analysis and Sobel test to obtain the results of the proposed hypothesis. The results report some positive relationships of the intellectual capital to firms’ performances and values, directly and indirectly, with a substantial effect on the second model compared to the first model. This study highlighted knowledge’s capacity as a vital basis to gauge the banks’ performance and valuation. However, a better formulation of intellectual capital is required to capture a better measurement.

Banking is very regulated by the government and even has to follow regulations issued by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, which regulates banking in the world. According to Basel III, banks must provide capital reserves called capital buffers. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that determine capital buffer. Factors thought to affect the capital buffer studied consisted of profitability (ROA), credit risk (NPL), liquidity risk (LDR), capital adequacy in the previous period (CARt-1), management risk (NIM), and ratio of operating risk (OER). The population in this study is conventional banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, as many as 42 banks, with a sample of 40 banks taken by purposive sampling method with an observation period of four years with quarterly data (2016-2019). To test the hypotheses, regression panel data is used. After being tested, it turns out that the fixed effect model is better than the common effect and random effect. The results of the study with fixed effect models show that ROA, NPL, and OER significantly and negatively affect capital buffer. CARt-1 has a positive and significant effect on capital buffer, while LDR and NIM do not affect capital buffer.

This study examines the drivers and implementation of intrapreneurship strategy in a property service company. Using a qualitative case study approach, the study interviewed four managers involved in related intrapreneurship initiatives. The data was validated by an expert and a practitioner from a different company. The implementation of the company’s intrapreneurship strategy is limited to improving new ways of working and developing products and services. However, business development and the creation of new business models are still limited. From several intrapreneurship driving factors, it was observed that the company practices are considered adequate with regard to top management support, leadership, flexibility in carrying out work, as well as in fairly harmonious arrangements for ongoing business relationships with the intrapreneurship projects. On the other hand, human resources with entrepreneurial behavior are still minimal. Similarly, the driving factors in reward and training that promote entrepreneurial behavior are also considered to be insufficient. The application of intrapreneurship as a strategy requires understanding and commitment from all parties in the organization. This study provides insight into the Indonesian context and proposes that intrapreneurship initiatives are less likely to succeed if they are not supported by developing a more systematic entrepreneurial mindset, behavior, and culture.

This research seeks to provide evidence about how political connections, proxied by government ownership and the existence of politically connected board members, affect the extent of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosures in Indonesian listed companies. This research uses the legitimacy theory as a basis for explaining management’s motivation for disclosing its CSR. The sample consists of 131 firm-year observations from 38 non-financial public companies that published sustainability reports from 2013 to 2017. We measured the CSR disclosures using a disclosure checklist on the sustainability reports. We subsequently processed the data using a random effect (RE) linear regression. The result shows that CSR disclosures were greater in government-owned companies but lower in companies that have politically connected board members. The results support the legitimacy theory that the government intends to demonstrate legitimate national economic and political conditions by showing that government-owned companies are sustainable. However, CSR disclosures seem to have a substitutive relationship with the existence of politically connected board members, since those political connections may protect the company from public pressure and/or the risk of litigation, reducing the need for CSR disclosures. This research provides evidence that different types of political connections may have different impacts on corporate disclosures.

The purpose of this study was to examine the role of profitability as a mediating variable in influencing firm value. This study uses a sample of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2016 to 2018. The data used is panel data, with data analysis using multiple regression. Based on the Sobel test, profitability plays a role in mediating the effect of firm size on firm value. The effect of firm size on firm value is indirect, however, through profitability. Therefore, the market price of the shares of large-scale companies will increase if the resulting profitability is high. The capital structure and managerial ownership directly influence firm value. The results showed that managerial ownership and firm size had a positive effect on profitability, while capital structure had no effect on profitability. Capital structure and managerial ownership have a negative effect on firm value, while firm size and profitability have a positive effect on firm value. The main finding of this study is that profitability acts as an intervening variable in mediating the relationship between firm size and firm value.
