A study on differences of Korean and Chinese Expression Technique using ‘지’ Construction.
The usage of ‘지’ has two cases, being used in the end of a word and in Bound Noun. Except when the end of a word ‘지’ is connected to the stem of declinable words in ‘-ㄹ지’ form, they ostensibly have same forms with ‘-ㄴ지’. But ‘지’ constructions have many cases of inflections in from the grammatical forms to the expressed meanings. So we may have many difficulties in translating ‘지’ constructions into a foreign language.
This article describes how to translate ‘지’ structures into Chinese and which Chinese constructions to be translated into ‘지’ structures by analyzing and comparing different samples of ‘지’ constructions on diverse primary materials -- from news articles to fictions or dictionaries. I expect that this research may contribute to Korean to Chinese or Chinese to Korean translation.
