인간이 의사전달을 하기 위해 문자를 만들었고, 그 문자에 의해 구성된 문장의 전달효과를 보다 증진하기 위하여 표현 형식을 가다듬게 되었다. 언어와 문장은 표현하는 방법에 따라 전달의 효과도 달라질 수 있다. 따라서 작문상 어휘의 선택 이나 작문의 방법을 구상하여 전달의 효과를 기하는 것은 당연한 일이다. 중국인 들은 고대로부터 기록을 위한 문장은 일상 언어와는 달리 수식을 가하여 작문하 려고 하였다. 수식에 의한 구성진 표현을 좋은 문장으로 보고 이를 계승 발전시켜 결국 각종 요식을 갖춘 문체를 만들어 내기도 하였다. 한문의 문장들은 다양한 수사적 기법에 의해 구성되어 있다. 수많은 표현 기법 을 강구하여 멋진 문장으로 전달효과를 높이려 하는 것인데, 한문의 문장 구성법 을 살펴보면 가장 기본적이고 어디에서나 발견할 수 있는 것이 조화의 원리이다. 만물의 생성 원리를 음양의 상응작용에서 찾듯이 중국인은 문장의 형성에도 음양 조화의 원리를 적용시켰다. 강약 대소 억양 등 상대적인 조화를 이루어 균형미를 추구함과 동시에 상대적인 대조로 독자의 이해를 배가시키자는 데 그 의도가 있다고 볼 수 있다. 한문의 문장 구성법은 다양하지만 그 중에서도 조화로운 형식미를 추구하는 수 사법은 가장 기본 요건이다. 본고에서는 이 점을 중시하여 문자에서부터 각종 문 형에 나타난 조화의 원리를 고찰하였다. 그림문자에서 출발한 한자는 구성상에서 매우 균형미를 갖추고 있다. 문장에서는 더욱 조화로운 균형미를 살필 수 있는데, 먼저 일반 산문을 보면 산체로만 일관하지 않고 우구와 배합하여 작성하는 것을 살필 수 있다. 변려문과 사부에서는 구문의 대우관계 뿐만 아니라 성률까지도 지 극히 균형적 조화를 추구하며, 시에서도 내용은 물론 자구와 성률 등에서 상호 균 형과 조화의 원리에 의한 작법을 지극히 중시하고 있다. 한문의 작품마다 문장의 구절에서 배분의 질서와 상대적 조화의 미를 발견할 수 있는데, 이는 중국인의 생 활철학이 문장을 구성하는 데에도 반영된 결과라고 보아야 할 것이다.

The man made letters to communicate with each other, and made the different sentence structures to develope the effect of communication. In proportion as the method of expression, the understanding effect can be different. Therefore, it is necessary for author to think how to make a good sentence in order to express his mind well. Chinese people from ancient to middle age had made writing sentences differed from oral expression. They took it for granted to make a sentence beautiful. As a result, they had made many kinds of writing styles. Classical Chinese sentences are composed with many kinds of rhetorical devices. When we read Chinese sentences, we can find the harmonious arrangement of composition. Chinese people used the harmony of the cosmic dual forces even in composing sentences. They thought the mutual, symmetrical and harmonious composition could make readers understand the sentence structure more easily. This paper is written to study the principle of harmony founded in rhetoric of classical Chinese sentences. The harmonious rhetoric in Chinese sentences is an essential. All of Chinese letters have the symmetrical and harmonious beauty in composing. There are many rhetorical devices in Chinese sentences. The majority of proses have the harmonious composing of antithesis and prosaic expression. We can find the symmetrical harmony of the male and female principles and the vocal sound tone of letters in not only Byun-ryeo styles and rhapsodies but also poetry. We can find many rhetoric skills of harmony and symmetry in Chinese sentences. This comes from the result that Chinese philosophy has been reflected in writing sentences.
