한국 독립영화 분야는 한국 영화역사가 시작된 이래 상업영화와 함께 공존하며 그 생명력을 유지해왔다. 독립영화인들은 상업영화의 완성도 높은 스토리텔링과 화려한 스케일에 못 미치는 퀄러티로 대중들에게 소외되어 왔음에도 불구하고, 그들만이 가지고 있는 사회와 정치계를 향한 날카로운 잣대와 굽힐 줄 모르는 장인정신으로 세계 여러 예술영화 제를 통해 늘 그들의 존재를 알려왔다. 본 논문에서 소개하는 “마지막 밥상”은 로카르노, 선댄스, 로테르담, 부산 등 세계 유수 예술영화제에 초청되어 그 실험적인 형식과 독특한 미학적 가치를 인정받은 좋은 모델이라고 볼 수 있다. 또한, 이 영화는 한국 독립영화계에서는 처음으로 프 랑스 파리에서 2008년 3월 최초 개봉 후 한국에서 같은 해 4월 개봉절차를 밟고 있 는 유일한 사례이다. 본 논문은 “마지막 밥상” 제작의 모든 절차 - 캐릭터 생성, 시나리오 개발, 예산 확 보, 장소 헌팅, 스텝과 배우 캐스팅, 촬영, 후반작업 - 를 상세히 기술하고, 제작과정 에서 일어나는 다양한 문제점들을 나타내고 있으며, 실험정신이 강한 독립, 예술영 화계에 새로운 대안적 모델을 제시한다. 특히, 본 논문은 제작과정 동안 발생된 다양한 문제점, 즉 적은 예산, 짦은 촬영 회 차, 비 전문 배우의 연기력, 필드 경험적은 스텝들, 촬영과 조명팀의 기술적 미학적 갈등, 슈퍼16미리 카메라촬영의 내제적 문제점, 노출/섹스씬, 날씨와의 싸움 등에 대 해 자세히 기술하고 있다. 이러한 다양한 한계에도 불구하고, 독립영화는 계속 생산되어야 하고, 그들만이 가 지고 있는 날카로운 시각과 미학적 실험은 다양한 자리에서 회자되고 평가되어야 한다.

The field of independent filmmaking in KoreahascoexistedwithcommercialmovieindustryfromthebeginningofKoreancinemahist ory,butmostaudienceshavetendedtoavoidindependentfilmsthathavelessentertainingandles szoomy. Nevertheless, independent filmmakers keep their long lives by exposing the films in many international art film festivals and expressing their sharp opinions toward society & politics and their unflinching artisanship. The indie film, “The Last Dining Table” is one of good examples that have been circulated in many international art film festivals like Locarno,Sundance,Rotterdam,Edinburgh&Pusan&havebeenwellacclaimeditsexperiment alapproachandaestheticvalue.Forthefirsttime,amongindependentcinemafield,thefilmwasr eleasedinParis,Franceon19thMarch2008andthenwillbereleasedinSeoul,Koreaon11thApril 2008. The purpose of the paper is to show various problems and issues in all the stages of the production of the film “The Last Dining Table”, suggest the film as one of valuable alternative models to make indie, experimental, art films, & highlight to be discussed in many places about internal, deep-seated problems of independent cinema industry. This paper shows the whole process of the film production , such as how I, as the director & writer, expanded the characters and scenario, funded total budget of the production and post-production, prepared the location hunting, casting actors & crew, shot the film, & solved the problems in location and open set. Especially, the indie film production has many problems, such as very tight shooting schedule (17 intermittent days in 3 weeks), the quality of acting by non-professional actors or theater-actors, young crew who has small experiences from the commercial field, the technical conflict between camera part and lighting part, the problems of the use of the super 16mm camera, the sex scene & the long waiting for cloudy weather. In these various limitations, independent films nevertheless have to be produced continuously, & criticized actively about their aesthetic experiments & social issues.
