A study on proses of Bomanjae Seo Myeong-ung(保晩齋 徐命膺)- In relation to studies focused on Ichingxue(易學) -
이 논문은 보만재(保晩齋)서명응(徐命膺)의 학문 특징과 그 학문 특징을 보여주는 문학 세계의 일면을 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다.그는 보만재총서(保晩齋叢書) 등 거질의 저술을 남긴 것으로도 유명하며,그의 학문은 여러 학문의 전분야에 걸친 박학(博學)의 특징을 보인다. 그런데 그의 학문의 중심에는 역학(易學)이 놓여있다. 그는 역학 중에서도 상수학(象數學)계열인 소옹(邵雍)의 선천역(先天易)을 중시하였다. 그의 선천역(先天易)에 대한 관심은 그의 박학(博學)의 학풍과 학문 본연에 대한 탐구 및 16․17세기 이래 조선 사회에서 주목받고 발전되어온 상수학(象數學)연구의 전통에서 비롯된 것이라 할 수 있다. 그는 선천역(先天易)에 기반하여 총서(叢書)의 4部및 각 저서의 수와 권수를 안배하였다. 이렇듯 서명응의 학문의 중심은 역학(易學)이었고 다른 학문도 역학(易學)에 바탕하여 저술하였다. 또한 서명응의 저술은 역학에 바탕을 하면서 경세적(經世的)이고 실용적(實用的)인 특징을 보인다.
This paper aims to examine the characteristics of studies of Bomanjae(保晩齋) Seo Myeong-ung(徐命膺) and an aspect of his literary world showing the characteristics of his studies. He is famous for writing agreat masterpiece such as Bomanjaechongseo(保晩齋叢書), characterized by erudition throughout all fields of various scientific studies. By the way, in the center of his studies, lies Ichingxue(易學). Among Ichingxue(易學), He attached importance to Xiantianyi(先天易, Before heaven divination made by Fuxi 伏羲) of Shao Yung(邵雍), a kind of Xiangshuxue(象數學, Images and Number Learning). His interest in Xiantianyi(先天易) can be said to have originated from his academic tradition of erudition and studies on Xiangshuxue(象數學) which had been noted and developed in the Joeseon Dynasty Society since the 16 and 17 centuries. Based on Xiantianyi(先天易), he determined 4 chapters of the chongseo(叢書). Like this, Seo Myeong-ung's studies focused on Ichingxue(易學) and he written other books based on Ichingxue(易學). Seo Myeong-ung's viewpoint of studies focused on Ichingxue(易學) can be verified in literary works. Seo Myeong-ung's interest in scientific studies led to seeing ordinary objects which are seen in everyday life from the point of view centered on Ichingxue(易學), and a common idea in the world was reinterpreted from the viewpoint of Ichingxue(易學). As a typical example, such a trend can be ascertained from 「Yuyoungchungi(遊永春記: the description of sightseeing in Youngchun)」and 「Guryongjeonggi(九龍亭記: the description of a pavilion where nine dragons are)」. Seo Myeong-ung denied curious and interesting stories such as folklore legends and reinterpreted objects from his viewpoint focused on Ichingxue(易學). Seo Myeong-ung, based on Xiantianyi(先天易), viewed natural scenery, newly interpreted a place name, etc., simultaneously, even expressing his idea of administration of the world.
