강명석의 이름은 세 가지로 성도, 명석, 문석이었는데, 공적인문서와 저 술활동에서는 ‘강명석’으로 사용하였다. 교적도 셋으로 장로교회에서 신 앙생활을 출발하여 감리교회서 목사가 되었고 문필가로 활동하였으며, 그 리스도의 교회로 옮겨 회복운동을 한국교회에 소개하였다. 그는 일본과 미국에서 신학을 공부한 유학파 출신으로, 미국유학 당시 처음에는 강제 송환을 당하였지만 두 번째에 뜻을 이룰 정도로 의지력이 강했다. 그러나 회복운동가가 되어 귀국한 후 바울을 닮으려는 심정으로 최선을 다하던 어느 날 모함을 받고 모함하는 자로 인해 쓰러져 눕고 말았다. 그는 분쟁 과 분열을 싫어하였기에 혼자서 하나님께만 그 아픔을 호소하며 4년을 누 워 지내다 44세의 젊은 나이에 요절하므로 자기희생을 통한 용서를 가르 쳐 주었다. 강명석은 한국교회사에 기독교사회주의자, 문필가로는 알려져 있지만, 한국 그리스도의 교회 초기지도자이며 한국에 회복운동을 소개한 선구자 로는 별로 알려져 있지 않았다. 그래서 본 연구는 강명석을 한국교회사 속 의 회복운동가로 소개하고, 아직도 생소하게 느껴지는 회복운동을 한국교 회에 소개할 의도를 가지고 연구하였다. 특히 그의 회복운동 사상은 문필 가답게 그가 남긴 유산인 그의 글을 중심으로 소개할 것이다. 그가 펼친 회복운동은 ‘성서로 돌아가자’, ‘원시교회로 돌아가자’, ‘하나님께로 돌아가 자’, ‘하나의 교회로 일치하자는 운동’이었다. 그러므로 세속교회와 전자식 교회, 프로그램중심교회가 생겨나고 수많은 교파로 분열되어 있는 한국교 회에 회복운동의 사상은 교회개혁(교회갱신)과 교회일치의 방안이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Kang Myung-suck had three names: Seong-do, Myung-suck and Mun-suck. Among those three, “Myung-suck” was for the his official documents and for his literacy activity. Kang Myung-suck had three church registers: he started his religious life at the Presbyterian church, became a Methodist pastor and writer, and finally became a Church of Christ preacher, who has introduced the Restoration Movement to Korea. Kang Myung-suck studied theology in Japan and in the United States. Kang Myung-suck was the man of strong willpower: even though he had been recalled when he was first studying in the United States, he tried the studying abroad again and achieved his goal. After coming back to Korea as a Restoration Movement advocate, he did his best, imitating the attitude what the Apostle Paul had. Kang Myung-suck was unfairly attacked with slander, however, which caused him collapse. Kang Myung-suck did not want the disputes and divisions, so he just appealed to God on his painful situation, while he was sick abed for four years, until he died at the age of 44. With this sacrifice, he has taught the attitude of forgiveness. Kang Myung-suck is known as a Christian socialist and writer in Korean Church history, but his name is not well known as a pioneer who has introduced the Restoration Movement to Korea. This thesis is for re-introducing Kang Myung-suck as a Restoration Movement advocate, and for introducing the Restoration Movement itself, which is still a new concept to many Korean people. Kang Myung-suck actively involved in the literacy activity, so this thesis is based on his written legacy. Kang Myung-suck worked for the Restoration Movement, which pleas: “Let's go back go the Bible”; “Let's go back to the Primitive Church”; “Let's go back to God”; and “Let's unite as one Church.” Korean churches are now in the turbid waters of worldy churches, technology-focused churches and the program-driven churches, being divided into so many denominations. This writer hopes that the Restoration Movement can be the measure for the real reformation (or renewal) and unity of the Korean churches.
