이 글은 조위의 학문연원과 시세계 가운데 특히 조위가 김종직 문하에서 차지 하고 있던 위치와 무오사화를 전후로 하여 달라지는 시세계의 두 국면을 중심 으로 논의를 전개하였다. 조위의 이복누이가 김종직에게 시집을 감으로써 조위는 김종직과 처남ㆍ자형 의 지친이 되었고, 이것을 인연으로 김종직의 제자가 되어 도학을 강론하였으 며, 김종직이 죽은 뒤에 그의 처남이며 문집을 수찬하였다는 이유로 갑자사화 때에는 김종직과 마찬가지로 천양지화를 당하였다. 당시에 수많은 제자를 길렀던 김종직 문하에는 여러 부류의 사람들이 있었는 데, 조위는 여러 부류의 제자들 가운데에서도 문학으로 이름이 났고, 결국 문학 으로 입신하여 성종의 지우를 받아 ｢호당기｣를 짓고, 󰡔두시언해󰡕를 편찬하고 그 서문을 쓰는 일을 맡게 되었다. 그런데 성종 사후 연산군이 즉위한 뒤 유자광 등이 무오사화를 일으켜서 승승 장구하던 그의 벼슬길이 급전직하하여 귀양길로 이어지는 시기를 당해서는 글 에 대한 그의 생각과 철학이 바뀌었다. 그는 무오사화 이전에는 김종직의 문학에서 다진 도학을 바탕으로 문학으로 발양하였고, 이 시기의 그의 시는 벼슬살이 가운데의 한가함을 노래한 것이 주 조를 이루었다. 그러나 무오사화를 지나면서는 실의에 빠지고 문학에 대한 관심이 도학으로 회귀하였음을 볼 수 있다. 이 시기의 그의 시는 귀양살이 속에서의 한가함을 노 래하는 가운데 고향으로 돌아가고자 하는 마음을 노래한 것이 많다.

In this paper, I suppose to trace the origin of learning and to explain the world of poetry of Jo, yiu(조위) who lived in the time of King Sungjong(성종). Jo, yiu was a wellknown disciple of Kim, jongjik(김종직) who was looked up to as a leader of the age. When the massacre of scholars in year of muo(무오사화) was happened, Jo, yiu was Kim, jongjik's a brother of raw, bcause he was sent in exile on a remote contury Yeuju(의주), and the worlds of his poetry were divided before and after this massacre of scholars. There were many scholars under Kim, jongjik's instruction, and their propensity to learning was splited into three groups. Jo, yiu was belonged to the group of disciples, who were member of the group thank the poetry as very important thing in their life. He was a celebrity in the world of poety in the time of King Sungjong, and was beloved by king. Before a massacre of scholars in year of muo, Jo, yiu composed poems in the condition of delight, on the contrary, after the massacre of scholars, he studied neoconfucianism in the condition of sorrow. At first, he proud herself on his abillity of composing poem, at last, he got be disappointed at the situation of politic. He knew the fact that the political situation grew worse day by day, he decided to go back to home town. He would like to revolve form composing poem to studing neoconfucianism.
