Present status and issues on the study of readability in education of Korean language
【벼리】텍스트를 읽고 이해한다는 것은 단순히 단어와 단어의 의 미를 이해하는 것이 아니다. 문장 안에서 단어의 쓰임을 이해하고 전체적인 맥락을 이해하는 것이 바로 읽기 능력이다. 이러한 읽기 능력의 향상을 위해서는 수준에 맞는 읽기 텍스트가 바탕이 되어 야 한다. 본고에서는 읽기 텍스트의 수준을 측정하기 위한 도구인 ‘이독성’의 연구 과정을 알아보았다. 이독성이 연구된 계기를 바탕 으로 한국어 교육에서의 이독성 선행 연구 결과를 통해 앞으로 연 구 되어야할 이독성의 연구 방향을 제시하고자 한다.
The purpose of this study is to find out about the present status and issues on the study of readability in education of Korean language. Readability refers to the level of difficulty in reading text expressed in formula, which is designed to indicate the level of difficulty of a text using such means as difficult vocabularies and the sentence length in an objective manner. There have been a lot of researches into formulas and factors in English language education for native speakers while there has been nothing but a handful of academic theses based on Korean language education when it comes to Korean language education. Against this backdrop, this paper aims to find out how the studies on readability have been conducted and to discuss in what directions and approaches the studies on readability should take in the future. This study also aims to shed light on the importance of readability to classify and provide the level of difficulty of texts in an objective manner and to discuss what needs to be done in the future to be able to express readability in numerical values.
