이 논문은 한치진이 『基督敎人生觀』을 통해 1930년대 한국교회의 문제 점을 진단하고 그 개선방안을 제시한 논지를 고찰하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이 연구에서는 그의 대표적인 저서 『基督敎人生觀』 뿐만 아니라 본 주제와 관련된 다른 주요 문헌들도 참고할 것이다. 이 책은 일제강점기인 1934년 에 출판되었으며 기독교윤리관에 입각하여 저술되었다. 그는 목사도 신학 자도 아닌 평신도의 위치에 있었지만 기독교윤리에 뛰어난 지식을 갖춘 인 물이었다. 한치진의 저서 『基督敎人生觀』이 남긴 중요한 교훈들을 정리하 면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 개혁에 대한 관점이다. 그는 당시 한국교회가 여러 방면에서 심각 하게 타락했다는 점을 직시하고, 그리스도인들이 사회를 개혁해나가기 위 해서는 먼저 교회 안에 내재되어 있는 내적 부패상부터 척결해야 한다고 촉구했다. 둘째, 실천적인 관점이다. 한치진은 엄격한 규범을 제시했다. 모든 그리스도인들이 사회에서 선행을 추구함으로써 예수 그리스도의 삶과 가르침 을 따라 기독교윤리를 실천해야 한다고 했다. 그는 이 저서에 높은 실업률, 젊은 세대 교육, 병약한 환자들, 삶과 노동, 파시즘과 권위주의 등 다방면 에서 윤리적 주제들을 담았다. 셋째, 세계에 대한 관점이다. 그는 교회는 반드시 만물의 궁극적 중생(重 生)을 고대하면서 현세와 지복(至福)의 내세 양 지평에 동등한 관심을 가 져야 한다고 주장했다. 이 연구가 향후 한치진의 ‘기독교 윤리관’, ‘기독교 심리학’, ‘기독교 교 육학’, ‘신앙적 사고’ 등의 연구 작업으로 더욱 확장되어지기를 기대한다.

The aim of this paper is to study the Korean Church in the 1930s through Chi-Jin Han’s Christian Life, focusing on the problems and their alternatives. To accomplish this purpose I will use not only his Christian Life, but also his other meaningful works of reference related to this subject. Chi-Jin Han’s representative book Christian Life was published in 1934 under the colonial policy of Japan. This book was written in the light of the Christian ethics. Han was neither a pastor nor a theologian, but he was a brilliant layman with a good understanding of the Christian ethics. The main lessons Han’s Christian Life left behind can be summarized as follows:
First, viewpoint of Reform: Han realized that the Korean Church had deep-seated problems in a variety of fields. He argued strongly that if Christians were to reform society, they should first reform the internal corruption within the Church itself.
Second, viewpoint of practice: Han presented strict norms that all Christians should practice Christian ethics based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ by doing good deeds for society. His book Christian Life contains various ethical themes such as a high rate of unemployment, youth education, sick patients, life and work, fascism and authoritarianism, and so on.
Third, viewpoint of the world: The Church must try to pay a balanced attention to this world and to the heaven’s perpetual bliss, looking forward to the ultimate regeneration of all things.
I am looking forward to scholars’ research into Chi-Jin Han’s other thoughts such as ‘Christian ethics’, ‘Christian psychology’, ‘Christian education’, ‘faith thinking.’
