본 논문은 종교개혁 이후 선교에 영향력을 미친 주요 인물들의 선교적 영성을 살펴보고 그 시사점을 찾는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 초기 경건주의자들, 니콜라스 친첸도르프와 모라비안들, 그리 고 존 웨슬리(John Wesley)와 알버트 심프슨(Albert B. Simpson)의 선교적 영성을 주로 살펴보았다. 오순절 성령강림 사건 후 초대교회는 선교부흥을 통하여 지리와 문화의 경계를 넘어 확장되었다. 그 후 선교는 암흑기가 계속되었다. 그런데 17세기 경건주의가 도래하면서 사도들과 제자들을 통하여 초대교회가 보여주었던 영적부흥과 선교부 흥이 다시 점화되기 시작하였다. 그들의 선교적 영성은 친첸도르프와 모라비안 교도들, 그리고 웨슬리와 심프슨으로 강력한 영향을 주면서 선교적 영성의 흐름을 이어갔다. 경건주의자들과 모라비안교도들의 영성은 신앙고백과 삶의 일치 추구, 도전적인 선교사 파송을 강조하였 다. 웨슬리의 선교적 영성은 성경과 일치된 삶과 기도를 통한 사회변화 를 추구하는 선교를 통하여 영국에 영적부흥을 가져왔다. 심프슨의 영성은 자신이 경험한 사중복음을 선교와 연결시킨 선교적 영성이었다.

This paper examines the spirituality of key mission movements post-Reformation era and seeks its implications. To fulfill this purpose, we will investigate the missional spiritualities of Pietists, Nicolaus Zinzendorf, Moravians, John Wesley and Albert Simpson. After the Pentecost, the early Church crossed the boundaries of geography and culture to expand their mission work. It was a missional spirituality in action with a dramatic impact on Pietists, Zinzendorf, Moravians, Wesley, and Simpson. The Pietists and Moravian disciples pursued a life consistent with the confession of faith. Wesley’s missional spiritualty touched many minds and the society. Ultimately, it brought about spiritual revival in England. Lastly, Simpson’s spirituality pursued sanctification and missions through his Fourfold gospel.
