이 연구의 목적은 연령증가에 따른 경도 정신지체학생의 자세제어를 EquiTest를 이용하여 조사하는데 있다. 3개 연령에(9-10, 14, 18세) 총 60명의 학생(정신지체 30, 일반학생 30)이 연구에 참여하였다. 경도 정신지체학생은 정신지체이외의 운동학적 신경학적 장애가 없었고 부모의 동의를 받고 연구에 참여하였다. Posturograpy(EquiTest)를 통해 조사된 연구결과는 다음과 같다.

1. 정신지체를 지닌 학생은 모든 조건과 종합평형점수에서 일반학생보다 낮은 점수를 보였다.
2. 아울러 높은 가변성과 넘어짐을 보였다. 감각구성에서 시각과 시각간섭을 일반학생에 비해 바람직하게 해석하지 못하는 경향을 보였다.
3. 동작전략 면에서도 낮은 점수를 보였고 일반아에 비해 연령변화에 대한 차이와 특직이 나타나지 않았다.
4. 정신지체 학생들은 선별적인 간섭에서 낮은 점수와 높은 가변성을 보였다.

종합적으로 정신지체 학생의 자세제어는 일반학생에 비해 가변성과 선별적인 간섭에서 그 차이를 보였다. 또한 감각정보의 사용을 충분히 하지 못하거나 부적당하게 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 이들 장애학생의 인지적, 심리적, 또는 과제 이해도를 종합적으로 고려해서 자세제어 차이가 고려되어져야 한다.

This research examined sensory organization and motor control of postural response in persons with mental retardation(MR) and nonretarded persons. Three age groups were studied: 9, 14, and 18 year olds. Postural response characteristics were examined using computerized dynamic posturography(EquiTest).
Results indicated that for the sensory organization test composite equilibrium score, equilibrium scores for somato sensory and vestibular, vestibular ratio, and COG alignment in MR group were lower than that of nonretarded individual. For the motor control test, variability of latency in MR group was higher than that of nonretarded individual. For the motor control test, variability of latency in MR group was higher than that of nonretarded group. Age-related improvements of MR group in postural stability were not uniform and depended upon the specific sensory condition.
Overall, these results indicated that poor equilibrium and inappropriate postural response of MR group may be related to using of inappropriate visual information, cognitive factors of attention, and strategies of postural control.
