본 연구는 한국과 미국 초등학교 아동의 스트레스 요인을 비교함으로써 한국 초등학교 아동의 스트레스 요인이 문화적으로 독특성을 갖는가와 양국 아동의 신체활동 참여가 그들의 스트레스에 어떤 영향을 미치는가를 파악하는 것이었다. 이를 위해 한국의 G시와 C도에 거주하고 있는 초등학교 5학년 414명과 미국의 North Carolina 주의 G 시에 거주하고 있는 초등학교 아동 282명 총 696명을 대상으로 스트레스요인과 신체활동에 따른 스트레스를 비교한 결과 한국 초등학교 아동의 스트레스 요인은 ‘공부관련 스트레스’, ‘놀이관련 스트레스’, ‘친구관련 스트레스’, ‘운동관련 스트레스’ 순으로 나타났다. 반면에 미국 아동의 경우 ‘놀이관련 스트레스’, ‘친구관련 스트레스’, ‘공부관련 스트레스’ 순으로 나타나 한국아동과는 다른 순을 보였으며 이는 확인적 요인분석에서도 양호하게 확인되었다. 신체활동과 관련하여서는 한국 아동의 경우 신체활동참여 시간이 스트레스 수준의 완화에 긍정적인 역할을 하고 있는 것으로 나타났고, 미국 아동은 모두 신체활동참여 빈도와 시간 및 기간이 아동의 스트레스 수준을 완화시키는데 긍정적인 역할을 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

This study is to define difference of Korea and America elementary school children's stress according to their physical activities. The subjects are 414 korea elementary school children who have lived in Gwangju city in Korea and they are 5th grade, 282 America children who have lived in Greensboro city NC state in USA 2007. The scale is used in this study stress survey scale which is made for korean children. America children are measured this scale which is translated english and it contains 22 questions about their stressors. The results as follows;
First, In factor analysis, Korea children's stress, first factor is 'related study', the second factor is 'related their play', third factor is 'related friends', 4th factor is 'related sports'.
In factor analysis of America children's stress, first factor is 'related their play', the second factor is 'related friends', third factor is 'related study'. Second In analysis stress factor according to children's sports participation, Sports participation time affect to reduce children's stress in Korea. frequency of Sports participation, participation time, and participation periods affect to reduce children's stress in America elementary school children.
