Study of the Cognitive Process of Chinese Homophonic Words
본 논문에서는 먼저 언어의 형태와 구조의 관점에서 중국어 해음을 문장 내 코드 전환이 실현된 것으로서 보고 교체언어의 실현 양상에 따라 교체형과 변이형으로 나누어 그 유형을 살펴보았다. 나아가 인지언어학의 개념적 혼성 이론을 해석의 근거로 삼아 앞선 유형 분류에서 소개한 해음의 예 가운데 ‘杯具-悲剧’, ‘海龟-海归’, ‘BC-白痴’를 중심으로 해음의 생성과 이해의 인지과정을 분석하였다. 일반적으로 해음 현상은 ‘해음 감지→발음의 유사성을 매개로한 연상 작용→본래 글자 추출→입력공간 구축→공간횡단 사상을 통한 입력공간 연결→투사를 통한 혼성공간 형성→개념적 혼성과정을 통한 발현구조 창조→해음의 생성과 이해’의 인지 과정을 거침을 알 수 있었다.
This study began with the curiosity about the cognitive process concerning how homophonic words are produced and understood. First, in terms of the form and structure of the language, this study considered Chinese homophonic words the realization of intra-sentential code-switching and examined their types, dividing them into replacement type and variation type according to the embedded language. Code-switching of homophonic words is realized in the boundaries of various categories, such as the phoneme, morpheme, word, phrase, and sentence between Chinese mandarin vocabularies, between mandarin and dialect, between Chinese and English or between Chinese and number. According to the aspect, this study investigated them, dividing the replacement type into misspelled word, homonymous construction, dialect, number replacement and English replacement and the variation type into reduction type and imitation type.
Moreover, with a conceptual blending theory in cognitive linguistics as the ground of interpretation, this study analyzed the cognitive process of the production and understanding of homophonic words, focusing on ‘杯具(bēijù)-悲剧(bēijù)’, ‘海龟(hǎiguī)-海归(hǎiguī)’ and ‘BC-白痴(báichī),’ centering around of the examples introduced in the above classification of the types. In general, it was noted that the phenomenon of homophonic words went through the cognitive process as follows: “Detection of homophonic words → Association mediated by the similarity of pronunciation → Extraction of the original character → Construction of conceptual influences → connection of the conceptual influences through cross-space mapping → Formation of a blended space through projection → Emphasis of an emergent structure through a conceptual blending process → Production and understanding of homophonic words.”
