본고는 滄浪亭 李尙靖(1725∼1788)삶과 그의 문학에 나타난 정신을 고찰하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 그가 살았던 시기는 조선 후기의 문학이 한창 무르익었던 시대였다. 학문적으로는 義理學과 事理學이 병행하던 때였다. 그가 어렸을 때는 그다지 유복한 가정에서 성장하지는 않았다. 그의 학문 방향은 爲己之學에 있었다.
그가 많은 선비들과 교유하였다. 특히 그가 嶺南 左道와 右道 학자들의 소통에 일익을 담당하였다. 그 예로 그가 도산서원을 참배하고 그곳 선비들과 교유하였다.
그의 문학에 나타난 정신은 크게 4가지이다. 첫째 큰 국량을 바탕한 追遠精神이다. 그가 선비로서 마음공부를 열심히 하였지만 그의 식견이 편협하지 않았다. 그가 자신의 가문의 전통을 계승하여 집안을 부흥시키려고 하였다. 둘째 經術을 바탕 한 道學精神이다. 그의 학문은 육경에 연원을 두고 많은 책을 읽었다. 그는 知行合一한 道學者였다. 셋째 마음을 바탕 한 義理精神이다. 그가 爲己之學을 바탕으로 義理學 에 전념하였다. 그는 모든 일에 있어 正心이 바탕이 된다고 하였다. 넷째 그의 가슴속에는 尊王攘夷 정신이 자리 잡고 있었다. 그가 道德的 理想主義의 실행을 바라고 있었다.

This article sought to observe Sangjung Lee’s life and his thoughts reflected in his literature. He lived in an era when the writing style of the end of Chosen dynasty reached peak bloom. In that time, Confucian school of thought and empirical studies were in fashion back then. He did not grow up in an affluent family. He was going in the direction to specialize in moral philosophy, a study which focuses on oneself.
He interacted with many scholars. Notably, he acted as an intermediary between Yeongnam scholars (left and right). For instance, he participated in ritual ceremonies in Dosan Seowon and kept closed relationships with scholars who also supported Dosan Seowon.
There are four main characteristics appear in his literature. First, worshipping ancestors based on deep insights. Sangjung Lee studied hard to develop himself, but he was not a narrow-minded person. He desired to inherit his family tradition and make his family prosperous. Second, Taoist spirit based on sacred books. He read many books about The Six Sacred Books. He was a Taoist who acted hinge on his knowledge. Third, moral justice that rests on the mind. Sangjung Lee pursued Confucian school of thought through educating himself. He proclaimed that ‘right mind’ is the foundation for everything. Fourth, he supported the monarchy system while rejecting barbarian politics. Sangjung Lee wished for moral idealism.
