본고는 한국 근현대사를 관통하며 慶南 宜寧 지역을 중심으로 활동한 간재학파 문인인 新庵 田溶珪(1884~1962)의 학문 활동을 艮齋學 계승의 면모를 중심으로 고찰한 것이다. 전용규의 학문은 기본적으로 의령의 儒風과 潭陽田氏 가학을 배경으로 그 기초가 형성되고, 20대 이후 간재 문하에 입문한 이후에는 간재의 사상을 바탕으로 전개된 만큼, 그의 학문을 고찰하기 위해서는 의령의 儒風 및 담양전씨 가학, 그리고 간재학의 중심 내용을 파악하는 것이 필수적이라 할 수 있다.
이러한 점에 유의하여 본고에서는 전용규의 학문 활동을 검토하기에 앞서 그 배경으로서 의령 지역 및 담양전씨 문중의 학문적 특징을 고찰하였다. 그리고 그의 학문 활동을 간재학 계승과 전개를 중심에 두고 학파를 넘나든 교유 활동, 유교 문화의 계승과 보존에 주목한 강학 활동 등에 초점을 맞추어 검토하였다. 이러한 검토를 통해 전용규의 학문 활동은 지역과 문중의 개방적 학풍 및 의리 정신을 바탕으로 암울한 시대 상황 하에서 적극적인 무장 투쟁을 대신하여 유학의 맥을 보존하기 위해 은거 및 강학을 선택하여 전개됨으로써 유교 문화의 보존과 계승에 주안점이 두어졌다는 것을 확인하였다.

This paper examines the academic activities of Shinam[信庵] Jeon Yong-kyu[田溶珪](1884~1962), focusing on the succession of the Ganjae Studies[艮齋學], the teaching activities, and the academic exchange. He was a member of the Ganjae school, which was active in the area of the Uiryeong[宜寧] area through the modern and contemporary history of Korea. His scholarship was basically formed in the background of Confucianism in the area of the Uiryeong area and the academic style of the Damyang Jeon family. Therefore, in order to examine his studies, it is necessary to grasp the Confucianism in the area of the Uiryeong area, the academic style of the Damyang Jeon family, and the academic center of Ganjae Studies.
In this regard, I first examined the Confucian terrain and characteristics of the Uiryeong area and the academic characteristics of the Damyang Jeon family before reviewing his academic activities in this paper. And I analyzed his academic activities focusing on the succession and development of the Ganjae Studies, the exchange activities across the school, and the lecture activities that focused on the succession and preservation of Confucian culture. This analysis showed that his academic activities were based on the open academic and righteous spirit of the region and family, and instead of the active armed struggle, he chose to preserve the context of Confucianism and focused on the preservation and succession of Confucianism.
