아버지가 어머니에 비해 양육에 참여하는 시간은 적을지라도 영․유아가 바람직한 방향으로 성장하는데 있어서 아버지는 필수적인 존재이기 때문에 아버지의 양육태도는 영․유아의 전인적 발달에도 영향을 끼치는데 영․ 유아의 사회성 발달에 중요한 영향을 끼친다. 아버지의 애정적 양육태도는 책임감과 의무감이 따른 자율적인 행동으로 가장 바람직한 형태의 양육태도로 창의적이고 사교적이며 사회적응력이 높다고 한다.
