본고는 17세기 牛疫의 창궐이 개인과 사회에 환기한 것들에 대해 검토하고, 이를 바탕으로 중등 학교 한문교육에서 災難 관련 자료를 어떤 방향에서 다룰 것인가에 대한 생각을 적은 것이다. 우역이라는 충격 앞에서 개인과 사회는 이전의 삶의 방식과 인습적 가치를 되돌아보게 된다. 소의 노동력이 결여된 농경의 삶에서, 사람들은 소가 생활의 중심에 있던 日常의 소중함을 다시 생각하게 된다. 우역의 창궐은 전원적 삶의 안정성을 흔들고 기층민의 연대에 미세한 균열을 일으키기도 한다. 그리고 하나의 連鎖로서 외교 등 의외의 영역에까지도 파장을 일으키는 것을 볼 수 있다. 당시 조정에서는 몇 가지 정책을 서둘러 시행하는데 이 과정에서 전통적인 유교가치와 충돌하는 일이 발생하기도 한다. 우역 창궐은 소의 도살 문제에 대한 사회적 논의를 계속해서 촉발시키는 역할을 한다. 한편 우역은 기상 이변과 함께 발생함으로써 백성의 삶을 더욱 극단으로 내몰았다. 이러한 분위기는 하나의 압력으로서 사회 내에서 해결 구조를 모색하게 했다. 미래 사회에는 기후, 환경 문제가 사회적인 이슈로 부상하게 될 것이다. 이런 점에서 우역 자료가 함의하는 문제의식을 한문교육의 범위 안으로 편입할 필요가 있다.

This study set out to review what the prevalence of rinderpest awakened individuals and the society to in the 17th century and have contemplation on its utilization directions in the field of school. The prevalence of rinderpest shook up the stability of pastoral life and even caused minute cracks in the solidarity of common people. At that time, the government was hurry to implement a couple of policies, in which process they had a clash with the traditional Confucian values. As rinderpest raged in the nation, it continued to stimulate social discussions about the butchery issue. Since rinderpest happened along with extreme weather events, it drove the lives of people further to the extreme. This atmosphere put a pressure on the society to search for a solution structure. In the future society, meteorological and environmental issues will emerge as social issues, in which sense there is a need to incorporate the problematic consciousness implied by the rinderpest data in the scope of education.
