초록

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the qualitative effectiveness of group logotherapy, a nursing intervention applied to homeless people, and to provide an empirical basis for its use in promoting mental health and rehabilitation of homeless people, a vulnerable population. This study aimed to explore homeless people's experiences of group logotherapy. Methods: Eight individuals residing in a homeless center in Suwon, South Korea participated in a group logotherapy program for at least five sessions. Data were collected through in-depth interviews conducted between December 2021 and March 2022. Purposive sampling was employed is performed until at theoretical saturation was reached point. The research question was: “What are homeless people's experiences of group logotherapy?” The recorded interviews were analyzed using Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory method. Results: The analysis identified 187 meaningful statements related to the research phenomenon, from which 34 concepts and 16 categories were derived through open coding. Based on axial coding and paradigm modeling,-the central phenomenon identified in homeless people's experience of group logotherapy was “loss of meaning and purpose in life.” The core category was extracted as “acceptance of who I am and finding happiness in my given circumstances.” Participants reported experiencing an economic crisis, social maladjustment, and a breakdown in their attachment to life, leading to a “loss of meaning and purpose.” Through group logotherapy, they reflected their past and present selves, breaking down barriers, and communicating with others in the group. They were experiencing peer support, self-disclosure, empathy, and communication, leading to their personal transformation. They adopted various interaction strategies, such as objectively understanding and accepting themselves, striving to become better individuals, and realizing the meaning of happiness. As a result participants reported a greater sense of presence in the moment, a renewed sense of purpose, and increased motivation to find meaning in life. Additionally, interactions with peers played were an important factor in their change. Conclusion: Through group logotherapy, homeless people experienced positive changes in their perceptions and attitudes toward their lives through interactions with peers and efforts to find meaning. This study highlights the importance of programs that mental health nurses can provide in communities to help homeless people change and grow in meaning. Additionally, to develop a systematic process to help homeless people reintegrate into society, it is necessary to find the best way to support their various psychological vulnerabilities, implement social policies for them, and support their health and economic rehabilitation. This study focused on promoting the well-being health of homeless people, a highly vulnerable adequately and underserved group in nursing practice. Therefore, it is important to contribute developing nursing practices by providing evidence-based nursing interventions for the homeless population.
