Purpose: This study explored emergency nurses’ perception of and experiences with infection control in the emergency department (ED). Methods: This qualitative study employed focus group interviews and conventional content analysis. The participants were 19 nurses working in the ED of three general hospitals in the metropolitan area, and the data collection period was from July 1, 2024, to August 30, 2024. Four focus group interviews were conducted with each group consisting of 4~5 participants. Interviews were conducted for approximately 80 minutes per group. The interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim immediately afterward. Data were analyzed using conventional content analysis. Results: A total of 167 meaningful statements were extracted from the interviews. Five main themes and 15 subthemes were identified through interview analysis. 1) Limited information with “Limited information at the entrance of the ED” and “Challenges in sharing information”; 2) The gap between guidelines and reality with “Difficulty in adhering to guidelines due to a shortage of isolation rooms”, “Underestimating protective isolation”, “Skepticism due to practical limitations” and, “The need for infection control guidelines to fit ED circumstances”; 3) Application of guidelines that deviated from the principles with “Different nursing practice based on visual judgment”, “Guidelines that were overlooked in emergency situations” and, “Justifying the avoidance of tedious work by claiming to help prevent infection”; 4) Insensitivity to infection with “Performing only pretended infection control”, “Overlooking the importance of protective equipment”, and “Being became insensitive to infection”; and 5) The need to strengthen the organizational culture of infection control with “Interpreting the same guideline differently by individuals”, “The need for support from senior nurses to comply with the guidelines”, and “The need for practical training that reflects the reality of the ED”. Conclusion: ED nurses faced challenges in complying with infection control guidelines in the ED. These challenges were attributed to a combination of physical, structural, and personal factors. A unique feature of this study is its emphasis on the organizational culture of infection control. To improve compliance with infection control guidelines among emergency nurses, it is imperative to improve their physical and structural environment and provide regular practical training. This approach aims to foster an organizational culture that places a strong emphasis on infection control.

Purpose: This study was aimed to explore and analyze the experiences of nurses regarding department transfers following the sudden closure of a ward due to the collective resignation of residents. Methods: Data were collected from November 1 to 29, 2024, and a qualitative content analysis was employed. The participants were 11 nurses who were transferred to different departments following a ward’s sudden closure owing to the residents’ collective resignation. Results: A total of six themes and 24 sub-themes were identified. the first theme is ‘After the resident left, the ward was closed’. The second theme is ‘Various job placements were assigned after the ward’s unfortunate closure’. The third theme is ‘Difficulty adjusting to the new environment and leaning to adapt’. The fourth theme is ‘Changes in the nurse-physician relationships’, and the subtheme is ‘Surprised by doctors seeking nurses' opinions due to the absence of residents. The fifth theme is ‘Become an expert at adapting’. The sixth theme is ‘Worries about the future and a faint glimmer of hope’. Conclusion: This study highlights the challenges nurses encountered in adjusting to new departments following the unprecedented mass resignation of residents and the ensuing ward closure. Nurses initially faced difficulties, feeling expendable in the new environment. However, through the support and collaboration of their colleagues, they demonstrated resilience and adapted effectively. The study also noted that, despite the absence of residents, direct communication between medical staff and patients continued to function smoothly, facilitating their involvement in treatment planning alongside specialists and professors. Although departmental transfers can lead to increased job stress for nurses, successful adaptation during these transitions fosters professional growth by enhancing their knowledge, skills, and influence. Furthermore, knowledge sharing among nursing staff contributes to the overall development of the organization. To promote both personal growth and organizational advancement, nursing managers must actively listen to nurses’ perspectives about departmental transfers and provide compassionate support to assist in their adaptation. Creating an organizational culture that recognizes and values the contributions of colleagues who have undergone transfers is essential. By establishing a systematic approach that facilitates successful adaptation and fostering a positive, accepting nursing culture, departmental transfers can be transformed into an effective strategy for enhancing the professionalism and capabilities of nursing staff.

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the qualitative effectiveness of group logotherapy, a nursing intervention applied to homeless people, and to provide an empirical basis for its use in promoting mental health and rehabilitation of homeless people, a vulnerable population. This study aimed to explore homeless people's experiences of group logotherapy. Methods: Eight individuals residing in a homeless center in Suwon, South Korea participated in a group logotherapy program for at least five sessions. Data were collected through in-depth interviews conducted between December 2021 and March 2022. Purposive sampling was employed is performed until at theoretical saturation was reached point. The research question was: “What are homeless people's experiences of group logotherapy?” The recorded interviews were analyzed using Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory method. Results: The analysis identified 187 meaningful statements related to the research phenomenon, from which 34 concepts and 16 categories were derived through open coding. Based on axial coding and paradigm modeling,-the central phenomenon identified in homeless people's experience of group logotherapy was “loss of meaning and purpose in life.” The core category was extracted as “acceptance of who I am and finding happiness in my given circumstances.” Participants reported experiencing an economic crisis, social maladjustment, and a breakdown in their attachment to life, leading to a “loss of meaning and purpose.” Through group logotherapy, they reflected their past and present selves, breaking down barriers, and communicating with others in the group. They were experiencing peer support, self-disclosure, empathy, and communication, leading to their personal transformation. They adopted various interaction strategies, such as objectively understanding and accepting themselves, striving to become better individuals, and realizing the meaning of happiness. As a result participants reported a greater sense of presence in the moment, a renewed sense of purpose, and increased motivation to find meaning in life. Additionally, interactions with peers played were an important factor in their change. Conclusion: Through group logotherapy, homeless people experienced positive changes in their perceptions and attitudes toward their lives through interactions with peers and efforts to find meaning. This study highlights the importance of programs that mental health nurses can provide in communities to help homeless people change and grow in meaning. Additionally, to develop a systematic process to help homeless people reintegrate into society, it is necessary to find the best way to support their various psychological vulnerabilities, implement social policies for them, and support their health and economic rehabilitation. This study focused on promoting the well-being health of homeless people, a highly vulnerable adequately and underserved group in nursing practice. Purpose: This study examines parental perceptions of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and identifies key educational components for effective prevention programs. Given the long-term impact of ACEs on child development and well-being, understanding parental perspectives is essential for designing targeted interventions. By identifying gaps in parental awareness, this study provides a foundation for structured, evidence-based interventions aimed at reducing ACEs and promoting child well-being. Methods: A qualitative content analysis was conducted using the data obtained from semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 12 mothers of preschool-aged children between January 3, 2022, and January 11, 2022. Participants were recruited through purposive sampling to ensure diversity in parenting backgrounds and exposure to ACE-related risk factors. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and thematically analyzed until data saturation was reached, ensuring the identification of consistent patterns in parental perspectives and educational needs. Results: Five key themes emerged from the analysis. First, “Memories and emotions of ACEs” highlighted how past experiences of coercive parenting, neglect, and emotional detachment influenced current parenting practices, with many parents expressing a desire to break negative cycles. Second, “Long-term impacts of ACEs” revealed persistent psychological and emotional effects, including anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulties in emotional regulation, and struggles in forming secure attachments. Third, “Parent education needs for preventing ACEs” emphasized the need for structured training programs focusing on emotional regulation, stress management, positive discipline strategies, and effective communication skills to support healthy parent-child relationships. Fourth, “Social factors and family environment improvement” identified financial instability, limited access to community support, and social stigma as significant barriers to creating a safe and nurturing home environment. Finally, “Proposals for promoting healthy child development” included recommendations for increasing public awareness of ACEs, expanding accessible parenting education, and developing community-based initiatives to enhance family resilience and reduce ACE risk factors. Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of comprehensive parent education programs that emphasize non-violent discipline, empathetic communication, and parental stress management. Additionally, integrating social support systems, advocating for public policies that strengthen family well-being, and raising awareness of ACEs can enhance preventive efforts. Future research should assess the effectiveness of such programs across diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds to develop sustainable ACE prevention strategies. Expanding access to evidence-based parenting programs and incorporating them into public health initiatives will be the key to ensuring long-term success, reducing ACE prevalence, and promoting healthier childhood environments.

Purpose: In this study, we aim to understand and explore the anxiety caused by illegal filming and to develop strategies to relieve this anxiety among young Korean women. Methods: Seven young Korean women were recruited through public announcements using the photovoice method, a type of participatory action research. Photographing, classification of the collected photos, and focus group interviews were conducted. Participants engaged in various structured activities, including orientation sessions to introduce the research objectives and methods, photo taking to document their anxieties, photo submission and categorization, and focus group discussions to share their experiences and reflections. Data analysis was conducted using a six-step thematic analysis method to ensure the validity and reliability of the findings. Results: Five themes and 11 subthemes were derived based on the participants’ anxiety about illegal filming. The first theme, “Tension that persists in everyday life” included cautious behavior on uphill paths, highlighting how anxiety shapes everyday decisions and physical behaviors in public spaces. The second theme, “Searching for illegal cameras due to anxiety,” encompassed specific actions that participants regularly undertook, such as using camera detection applications, carrying specialized preventive items, and routinely checking for reflections using fingers and mirrors to ensure privacy. The third theme, “Efforts to avoid harm,” detailed participants’ intentional selection of safe environments, such as utilizing secure restroom facilities, choosing locations equipped with safety mirrors, and consciously observing illegal filming prevention banners. The fourth theme, “Exposed to illegal filming crimes,” involved direct experiences with illegal filming crimes, including discovering holes in public restroom walls, encountering cameras concealed in shoes, and experiences with silent or disguised cameras. Finally, the fifth theme, “Mental distress due to accidental damage” resulting from unintended victimization, was poignantly captured in participants’ descriptions of having negative emotional and psychological experiences, emphasizing the long-lasting impacts of such invasions of privacy. Implications: The findings provide critical foundational insights into the specific anxieties that young Korean women experience about illegal filming. This study provides valuable information that can inform effective prevention and management strategies. Participants’ proactive behaviors, including adopting detection tools, carrying prevention-focused items, and using safety-enhancing public facilities, underscore significant efforts to manage personal anxieties. These individual-level strategies highlight the urgent need for broader, systematic, and institutional support structures to effectively combat and mitigate anxieties related to illegal filming. Suggestions: Based on these findings, several recommendations are proposed. First, future research should expand the participant demographics by including women across various age groups and occupational backgrounds. Second, given the subjective interpretations inherent in the photovoice methodology, repeated studies are essential for uncovering additional meanings, themes, and deeper contextual understanding. Finally, future research employing the photovoice method should integrate diverse interpretive activities, allowing participants to analyze and articulate their photographic narratives more profoundly. Such comprehensive and multifaceted research approaches will significantly enhance our understanding of women’s anxieties regarding illegal filming and contribute to developing more robust, effective, and responsive policy interventions and societal support mechanisms.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of 'debate education using generative artificial intelligence (AI)' on 'debate efficacy' targeting elementary school students in the 5th and 6th grades. Through this, we aim to provide valuable information on debate classes using generative AI to field teachers and researchers in debate-related studies. This study aimed to provide students with a positive communication experience by allowing them to articulate their arguments, engage with peers, and persuade others. Additionally, it sought to serve as a foundation for fostering students' collaborative communication skills and digital language literacy. Furthermore, in alignment with the introduction of the “Media” domain in the 2022 Revised Korean Language Education Curriculum, this study aimed to offer pedagogical implications for teachers regarding debate education using generative AI. Lastly, it sought to expand the scope of Korean language education by preparing students to actively adapt to the rapidly evolving communication environment of the future society. Methods: To achieve this, a triangulation study combining quantitative and qualitative research methods was conducted. The quantitative research compared and analyzed the pre-post debate self-efficacy of the participants, while the qualitative research explored the effects of debate classes using generative AI by analyzing portfolios generated by the participants. Descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used to analyze quantitative data. As some of the response data from the participants did not satisfy the assumption of normality, the pre-and post-test changes in debate efficacy among the participants were analyzed using a nonparametric Wilcoxon signed- rank test (p<.05). The reliability of this study was verified through Cronbach’s ⍺ value. Portfolio analysis was employed for the qualitative data analysis. Results: The “Debate Self-Efficacy” of the participants was measured pre- and post-intervention using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed a significant improvement in all subcomponents of debate self-efficacy, including Emotional Self-Efficacy, Cognitive Self-Efficacy, and Social Self-Efficacy. In particular, significant improvements were observed in the components of Emotional Self-Efficacy, namely ‘expectation,’ ‘persistence,’ and ‘emotion regulation.’ Furthermore, the analysis of portfolios composed of activity sheets developed for this study revealed that engaging in debate activities using Generative AI positively enhanced the debate self-efficacy of the participants. Conclusion: This study demonstrates through action research and empirical analysis that Korean language debate classes utilizing generative AI are effective in enhancing students' debate efficacy. This study hopes to serve as a stepping stone for fostering Inclusivity and enhancing Communication Competence among learners, thereby contributing to the strengthening of their Debate Self-Efficacy. Furthermore, it is expected that this research will contribute to the activation of Debate Education Using Generative AI in school.
