In Pusan port, the studies which analyze container cargo volumes by using forecasting methods and research about container logistics system, etc., have been continuously carried out. But, in Pusan port, the study on an evaluation of traffic congestion gas been scarcely performed until now. Especially, when changing and extending a berth, or constructing a new port, it is very important to examine this field. And it should be considered. Thus, this paper aims to analyze the effect of ship traffic condition in the year 201, to evaluate marine traffic congestion, according to changing ship traffic volumes in Pusan port. To analyze it, we examined the results by simulation method.

This paper aims to suggest the strategies for Korea port, especially Busan to develope into a viable transshipment center and/or Hub port as the articulation points between mainline and feeder nets. To tackle this goal, the authors clarify the requirements for Korea port which will be critical in determining its position as Hub through the careful analysis on competitiveness, environmental impact, port policy and capacity, transshipment traffic and inherent ability to generate traffic. The results are summerized as follows. (1) Coping with increasing container volumes, new investment is sustainedly necessary to increase the capacity and inherent ability of container port and create economies of scale. Moreover, increasing port capacity will increase the potential for the Korea port's inclusion into mainline rather than feeder networks. (2) Considering an increasing awareness of need for customer-oriented operations and service quality rather than simply a reliance on infrastructure-led efficiency, privatization of one sort or another and corporation of port have been key strategies in achieving greater efficiency in Korea containerport.

If a system has a large boundary and complexity, forecast's accuracy will be very low when consider the system's substance as black box. Thus, it is necessary that analysis by structure model. To examine competition in Northeast Asia Ports, it has assumed that the form of structure model, For which the System Dynamics method is adapted in this paper. Northeast Asia Ports Model includes five ports - Pusan, Kobe, Yokohama, Kaoshiung, Keelung, - which are adjacent to each other by geographically and has a competition relation. The Northeast Asia Ports Model has several sub-systems which consists of each unit port models. And, each unit port model found by quantitive, qualititive factors and their feedback loops. All effects which components of one port have influence to components of the rest ports must be surveyed in order to construct Northeast Asia Ports Model, but it may be impossible currently. In this paper Northeast Asia Ports Model was simplified by HFP-Hierarchical Fuzzy Process Method -adapted to integration of level variables of unit port model. Container cargo volumes in Northeast Ports Model is distributed by results of HFP method. And, distributed container cargo volumes effected to unit port model. Developed model can estimate change of container cargo volumes in competitive relation by alternation of simple parameter, and reflects dynamics characteristics which are included in model.

The evaluation of port competition could be applied to determining the selection of a calling port. A few fundemental attributes of port competition were adapted by the 'brian storming'method. The criteria used for evaluating a port's competitiveness were as follows : efficiency of port operations, competitive power of each port's industry, economic activity of the hinderland associated with each port and capability of globalization. The weight of each criterion was 30%, 40%, 20% & 10%, respectively. And the most important factors that were considered in choosing each of the above criteria were profitability, port information system, cargo volume & inducement of foreign capital. The results of this study seemed to suggest that factors which influence port competition varied according to port circumstances, such as computer and communication systems and access to the global trade within the World Trade Organization.

The Container crane is mainly used in the harbor. But in spite of this wide use, it is a fact that there are still areas for automation, concerning the operator and the control system. If the encoding function is enhanced, then control effect can be increased to some extent. Since the distance from the hoist to the trolley cam be measured, the moving distance from the loading and unloading can be minimized. If this is applied to the real system, hazard elements can be eliminated and in given time since more unloading can be done, congestion can be reduced.

By the rapid expansion of containerization and intermodal transportation in international shipping since the 1970's, the larger containerships have emerged and concentrated their calls at a limited number of ports. Moreover, large-scale container terminals have been built to accommodate the ever-larger containerships, and the mordernization of terminal facilities and many developments in information technology etc. have been brought out. Thus, unlimited competition has been imposed on every terminal with neighbouring ports in Japan, Singapore, Hongkong and Taiwan etc. The purpose of this study is to suggest how the container terminal operators cope with unlimited competition between local or foreign terminals. The results are suggested as follows : First, transshipment cargoes, which the added value is high, is to be induced. Second, the function of storage is given on On-Dock Yard. Third, Berth Pool Operation System is to be introduced, especially in Gamman Container Terminal and Kwangyang Container Terminal. Fourth, the cargo handling charges is to be decided by terminal operator.

The productivity of port labor in Pusan port is very low and the ratio of port accident is high in comparision with other advanced foreign ports, The aim of this paper is to find why the productivity in Pusan port is much lower than that of other countries in terms of port labor education systems, To obtain the objective of this study, the writers used 163 questionnaire for port labor in BCTOC, PECT and UTC for the survey of training method of cargo equipment handling. The result of this study shows as follows ; (1) From the fact that ratio of labor who were trained by KPTI was 2.5%, we could say the public training system of port labor is not operated properly. (2) As most of laborers are trained by the experienced associate, they do not recognize how the level of cargo handling equipment is set to increase the productivity. (3) In order that the port public training system plays a good role in port industry, a new license system should be developed.

To design a coastal structure in the nearshore region, engineers must have means to estimate wave climate. Waves, approaching the surf zone from offshore, experience changes caused by combined effects of bathymetric variations, interference of man-made structure, and nonlinear interactions among wave trains. This paper has attempted to find out the effects of two of the more subtle phenomena involving nonlinear shallow water waves, amplitude dispersion and secondary wave generation. Boussinesq-type equations can be used to model the nonlinear transformation of surface waves in shallow water due to effects of shoaling, refraction, diffraction, and reflection. In this paper, generalized Boussinesq equations under the complex bottom condition is derived using the depth averaged velocity with the series expansion of the velocity potential as a product of powers of the depth of flow. A time stepping finite difference method is used to solve the derived equation. Numerical results are compared to hydraulic model results. The result with the non-linear dispersive wave equation can describe an interesting transformation a sinusoidal wave to one with a cnoidal aspect of a rapid degradation into modulated high frequency waves and transient secondary waves in an intermediate region. The amplitude dispersion of the primary wave crest results in a convex wave front after passing through the shoal and the secondary waves generated by the shoal diffracted in a radial manner into surrounding waters.

Since 1970s, though many effective construction methods have been established to solve soft ground problems which had occurred in the off shore land reclamation and on shore highway construction, lateral movement of structure on soft ground is still a big problem to engineers. In this study an applicability of criteria for determining the lateral movement of the structure in soft ground is examined and most measured data is obtained from 140 bridge abutments in highway construction sites. Characteristics and effectiveness of existing methods that used for deciding amount of lateral movements of abutment are analyzed using the obtained data. From the analysis, a proper method to prevent lateral movement is proposed. This method is confirmed on several case histories which were constructed on marine clay.

A digital image processing technique which is able to be used for getting the velocity vector distribution of a surface of the spilt oil in the ocean without contacting the flow itself. This technique is based upon the PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) technique and its system mainly consists of a high sensitive camera, a CCD camera, an image grabber, and a host computer in which an image processing algorithm is adopted for velocity vector acquisition. For the acquisition of the advective velocity vector of floating matters on the ocean, a new multi-frame tracking algorithm is proposed, and for the acquisition of the diffusion velocity vector distribution of the spilt oil onto the water surface, a high sensitive gray-level cross-correlation algorithm is proposed.

Water pollution in a semi-enclosed sea area such as a bay due to stagnancy of water has been a serious water environmental problem. Recently, some kinds of new methods to activate the tidal exchange between an inner bay and an outer sea area by control of a tidal residual current have been proposed. However, these methods have several problems, that is, I). deterioration in a natural view due to building of huge structures, II). increase of risk of a navigation in case of a submerged structure, III). limition of sea area where a tidal current can be controlled and IV). difficulty in removing those structures incase of occurrence of an unexpected impact on water environment. In this paper, a new method is proposed, which can solve all the above problems, to purify water quality in a semi-enclosed bay by creation and control of a pattern of a tidal residual current. The tidal residual current is controlled by unsymmetric structures, which change the properties of resistance according to the direction of flow, arranged on the sea bottom. In this study, several numerical and hydraulic experiments of tidal current and particle-tracking for various arrangements of bottom roughness in a semi-enclosed model bay were carried out. As a result of experiments, it becomes clear that it is possible to generate a new tidal residual current and to activate a tidal exchange by only operation of bottom roughness arrangement.

It is necessary to quantitatively asses the influence of tidal currents to analysis the coastal current patterns before or after constructing offshore structures like as breakwaters. This assesment can be made through the use of simulation models designed to reproduce the water movements of the area. And it is very important to predict a phenomenon of pollutant dispersion in the area. In this study, in order to predict the changes of sea water quality for the port development plan, Ilgwang harbour, located at the east coast of Pusan, the numerical computations ere carried out. The flow patterns were investigated before and after the development of the harbour bay and coastal area connected on it. The computational models are an extension of earlier work on the flow which used the ADI Method(Alternating Direction Implicit Method) in appling to Osaka Bay by KANEKO et al. The transport of pollutant constituents depends upon the currental characteristics of the water-transporting medium. In the currental flow model, water velocities and water levels are computed throughout the regions of it. These value are then used in the mass-balance equation to obtain the pollutant-constituent transport. As a result of this research, the present water quality of Ilgwang harbour and the coastal areas connected on it was proved out some good condition. The changes of sea water quality due to the port development plan of the Ilgwang harbour bay and the coastal area were not large compared with the present condition, but it will be likely able to get worse by increasing the semi-enclosed areas in the harbour bay. In order to improve the water quality of the area after development, the method to activate tidal.

Seascape means the scenery which is composed around the sea. Seascape has it's own characteristics compared with landscape and has many important roles in our urban life. Nowadays seascape is being destructed by the development is waterfront area and ocean space. Especially the various kind of buildings which are built in coastal area give great visual impact on seascape. But we have rare research on seascape and no guideline for seascape planning. Before any action against destroying seascape the assessment of seascape has to be preceded. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the representative seascapes which are selected from over 300 slides of various seascapes according to the types of seascapes. We used S.D (Semantic Differential) method with 35 adjective pairs in seven scale to evaluate each seascape. The results can be summarized as follows. 1) Seascapes can be classified as natural type and urban type. The natural type can be divided into beach type and rock-island type. 2) Natural type of seascape is more prefered than urban type. 3) Beach type is the most prefered among seascape types. 4) Natural elements of seascape, such as sky, water, sand, trees, forest, mountain, open space, waterfront line, are evaluated as 'good'to see but artificial elements, such as buildings, persons, roads, structures, are evaluated 'bad'to see. 5) As a result of factor analysis five factors(axes) are found out. They are 'wildness', 'vividness', 'preference', 'interest', and 'openness'. These factors can be used for evaluting any seascape.

This paper presents derivation of stage-discharge curve for Yangsan river. To derivate of stage-discharge lationship is one of the essential research areas in the water resource field. It provides reliable data a long term planning and hydrologic quantity on water resource development by quantitative analysis. The rating curve derivated through 15 discharge-observation on Yangsan river basin in 1997 has been estimated Q=1283.0262-1553.3158H+477.2702H2. According to the rating curve, the highest water level 2.6m, the limited water-level should be bound to the maximum of 2.6m. Before this research, stage-discharge curve of Yangsan river has not been developed, and only 15 discharge observation(hydrometry) has been carried out though this research. Therefore it seems necessary to collect observation data through a long term process to obtain a reliable rating curve equation.

One of the main purposes for studying waves and their resulting phenomena in a harbor is the prediction of harbor tranquility which gives the workable limit of a harbor. Ship activities within a harbor consists of entering the harbor, mooring, and cargo handling. In cases where cargo handling is not possible, the shipping expenditure becomes a large waste of money. And also the development of a harbor causes the circulation reduced inside the harbor and the unbalanced sediment budget of beach results in an alteration of beach topography. Therefore it is needed to predict the effect of the environmental change because of development and so the prediction of wave transformations does. In this study, we will show a numerical method using the time-stepping hyperbolic mild- slope equation involving refraction, diffraction and reflection, and the surfzone energy dissipation term due to wave breaking is included in the basic equation. Numerical model is established by a finite difference method and applied to the port development plan, Ilgwang harbor, at the east coast of Pusan.

Various information is required in the prediction of wave-induced current depending on the prediction tool. We can predict changes in wave-induced current from the distribution of wave, especially near the wave breaking zone. To evaluate these quantities, we have to know the local condition of waves, mean sea level, and so on. In this study, we used a monochromatic 2-dimensional shallow water wave equation combining with radiation stress and friction terms to develop a finite difference numerical model. The established model, then, was applied to the development plan of the eastern Pusan Coastal Zone, YeonHwa-ri and Daebyun fishing port. We represented the result with 2-dimensional graphics and made comparision between before and after development.
